Can't be long until he starts getting boo'd out of the building. The WWE live audience tends to be very forgiving of WWE 'comedy' - I don't understand why Santino Marella and Horswoggle were cheered as consistently as they are, and the stuff Danhausen is doing hits that same level of stupid. If I had to guess, I'd say he'll be fine but who knows? Quote
Paid Members mim731 Posted September 29 Paid Members Posted September 29 In fairness to Joe Hendry one thing he has always been is resourceful at finding a way to make things, no matter how silly, work for him, so I'm sure he'll be fine. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted September 29 Posted September 29 He probably should go back to TNA. He's just not good enough for either AEW or WWE. Quote

What is 'good enough', though? In AEW, ring work is prioritised - so I could see where you're coming from there. That said, outlandish characters have worked there in the past, the likes of The Outrunners, Danhausen and even Toni Storm - if anything, the kind of character Hendry played in ICW would probably work better in AEW. He's never going to be a main event act for them, but he wouldn't need to be. In WWE, you have the likes of Jey Uso, Nia Jax, Baron Corbin and others in high profile roles - there are wrestlers who have much less to offer than Hendry doing well. Ultimately, if you can get over you're 'good enough' and Hendry has shown that he can. He's getting utterly dire material to work with, but I don't think that's on him just as it wasn't on Santino or Hornswoggle. They do what they're asked, and try to make it work as best as they can. Paid Members DCW Posted September 29 Paid Members Posted September 29 (edited) WWE just can't do comedy. They never could. If they get even a hint that a performer is getting genuine laughs, they latch onto the wrong thing in that performers act and proceed to beat the audience over the head with it until it's not funny and becomes irritating. I feel sorry for the wrestlers who get laughs having to try and deal with Prichard, Hayes and H's ideas of humour r when they get backstage. Edited September 29 by DCW Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted September 29 Paid Members Posted September 29 All the Gang Wars stuff is abject crap, likely building to another boring, plodding War Games match at Survivor Series. Naomi will probably return and make this year’s an Inter-gender match. I don’t care. It’s still a load of GTA-role playing shite. But when Jacob was hit by the car? For a split second, they almost had me. Imagine if Solo was revealed as the driver, dressed like this! “I did it…for The Royce!” Quote

Aw, man, I hadn't sussed that this is definitely what that's leading to. Fuck's sake. Quote
andrew "the ref" coyne Posted September 30 Posted September 30 With Jaida Parker coming on board, a thought popped in my head that this could be a indication that Naomi is on her way back to counter her. Would it be too early? Quote

Would it be too early? Timeline wise with announcing her pregnancy etc it makes sense. Obviously it all depends on how long she wanted to spend time with her baby as it was something Naomi has wanted for a long time. But looking at the arrival of Jaida I think it's a lock that Naomi returns to a massive pop and instantly involved with the main feud, she's deffo coming back. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted October 4 Paid Members Posted October 4 I’m surprised this hasn’t been discussed more. In a dumb storyline, filled with dumb characters doing dumb things, this may have been the dumbest moment yet. Jaida Parker runs Jacob Fatu over with a car, jumps out and pretends it was an accident…then immediately reveals she actually did it on purpose and is a member of the 946. Why bother to pretend like it was an accident? Who was she trying to trick for all of three seconds? It was backstage. There were no fans. Jacob Fatu is presumably dead. Another example of WWE wrestlers doing things just because it’s pro-wrestling, despite it not making a lick of sense. It feels like the natural conclusion to all those times people run out in a balaclava and black hoodie on WWE TV, only to immediately reveal themselves afterwards. There’s no actual benefit or reason for the characters originally hiding their identity, other than the assumption that they’re some type of theatre kid trying to be dramatic. Even funnier, now. A street gang literally committing arson, kidnapping and vehicular homicide, but still dedicated to the silly theatrics of it all. Next week feels like the big one. It’s all become so stupid and crap I’m half expecting Roman to not even acknowledge any of it. Roman’s not stupid. He must know this is a load of shit. Considering the year he’s had, so obviously swinging his dick and politicking the fuck out of everyone. I just can’t imagine him lowering himself to being involved in this nonsense. A real sense of Screech still knocking about in, “Saved by the Bell, The New Class.” Quote

Paid Members RedTwoster Posted October 6 Paid Members Posted October 6 Admittedly I've only seen clips, but the Roman Reigns/LA Knight segment...they just can't help themselves from stepping into muddy 'worked shoot' territory when they want something to feel 'real' or heated. And what's the point? Knight referring to 'them' shoving a rocket up Reigns' arse. Calling him 'manufactured'. Reigns rattling on about Knight 'whining' that 'they' had nothing for him. Who are 'they'? In the fictional world, the idea of strapping the rocket to someone makes no sense - you either win or you don't, and if you do, you therefore deserve a title shot. If you're winning matches without getting your opportunity fair enough, have a moan, but that's not the context in which this was presented. I really do wonder how many segments like this they have on average each year, it's such a tired format and I wish they'd stop. How many of their fans even follow the backstage nonsense closely enough to understand any of this? While I'm not a fan of the gang wars nonsense - which is almost certainly happening because they have one eye on Wargames - it's nice to see Royce Keyes get some level of push. I know he took a pay cut to move to WWE, but if his ultimate ambition was to be in a more featured role, I guess he's achieved that. I enjoyed him as Powerhouse Hobbs, but realistically he was very unlikely to ever end up in a main event slot in AEW. Given how stacked that roster is, it would be difficult to justify pushing him at that level; plus Tony Khan doesn't favour larger wrestlers. I hope there's long term gain for him from a pay perspective - if I remember rightly, he joined before pay started getting chopped left, right and centre and presumably he would have hoped to step up a level financially after proving himself. But...I imagine that's doubtful. Still, good on him for moving up the card. Quote
TheScarlettChad Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I just want Knight to win the title. That's not much to ask. I've loved him since 2023. He needs the win on Roman he should have gotten three fucking years ago when he was incredibly over. And the fact he's still over now proves they should go with it. And if it fails, then at least you tried. WWE is scared of taking risks. Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted October 6 Paid Members Posted October 6 Yeah, really pleased to see Hobbs being a featured guy in whatever company. He's a diamond and has everything about him to be successful. So chuffed that he has bet on himself and is winning. LA Knight is a wankpheasant. Quote
Chili Posted October 6 Posted October 6 I've seen none of Hobbs, but he's in a top line role at the moment and that's class. He was always really good in AEW so much agreement with betting on himself and having a crack at it. Has Big Bill/Cass popped up back on TV there yet? Quote
