I'd like to fourth (or third, if John's serious about rescinding) BomberPat's post. Just catching up on that thread now, and like John I came straight here to make my first ever nomination (I think).

How To Bitch-Slap A Broflake 101 from BomberPat:

Hitler never said that. Sticking text on an image of a historical figure isn't the same thing as correctly attributing a quote to them.

That quotation comes from Gregor Strasser, not Hitler, taken from a propaganda pamphlet with the express intent of winning support from all sides of the political spectrum at a time when the Nazis were still a minority fringe party.

That would be Gregor Strasser, incidentally, who was assassinated on Hitler's orders because of how much Hitler disagreed with Strasser's views - Strasser being part of the historical left wing of the party.

The Nazis echoed the rhetoric of Socialism in an attempt to win support from sectors of society that were historically Socialist during a time of political upheaval, but expressly rejected class politics and wanted to bring the right and left together in hatred and rejection of the Jewish people; there's not a shred of Socialism in that, just propaganda and insidious politicking to gain support for a (then) unpopular fringe party. He targeted the rich with scare stories about Socialism and Communism, and targeted the workers with scare stories about the rich and the Jews. It was propaganda. Because he was a fucking Nazi.

Hitler organised gangs of thugs to attack Socialists and Communists. He entirely rejected class-based politics in favour of racial superiority. His first act when elected was to demolish the trade unions. He courted industrialists, and did nothing to redistribute wealth - quite the opposite. Socialists were the first sent to the concentration camps. Do these sound like the acts of a Socialist?

I've not tried, but I imagine all this could be found out within a few seconds on Google. So why should we believe anything else that you're positing as fact when you've proven yourself so ideologically blind that you'll believe anything you read on the internet without the slightest bit of fact-checking.

As brilliant as that is, and it IS brilliant, Glen won't care as he is either trolling (most likely) or will dismiss it as fake news.  However, it does display that critical thinking is vital and I enjoy robust posts such as that one.

Can't seem to link it as its a gif, but David's Trump face gif in reply to the claim that Conor McGregor could become the most famous man on the planet is amazing.  You can imagine Trump doing that if he read it.  It's in the Mayweather v McGregor thread in MMA.

I know the upvote/downvote system has rendered this thread a bit redundant, but I want to draw attention to this very nice piece of work by Thunderplex.

Had a chat with a girl I worked with a couple of years ago about quorn.  She loved it as it was a wonderful substitute for meat.  I explained to her it was still meat, and the quorn is a genetically bred brainless animal that comprises of a round body, no legs, no eyes or ears, just a mouth and an anus.  They are grown for 2 years, at which time they are euthanised by inserting a finger into both the mouth and the anus at the same time, suffocating it.  In despair, she contacted PETA.  This was the same girl I had the haggis discussion with.  Bless.
