The Brain of the UKFF - The Grand Final

It is not cheating in my book, I purposely picked that as the first sports quiz as everyone should be able to name a few countries.

We are only awaiting 8 quizzes to be completed (13 if Wolfvinson decides to follow me) If they are all done and dusted by lunchtime tomorrow then I will post the results on Friday afternoon. If not I will publish first thing Monday morning.

A final reminder for the last of the quizzes remaining that need to be completed today. They are:

Maverick 3 - Flags, IC title and UK Sitcoms

DCW - Bohemian Rhapsody

gbacon85 - IC title

Monkee- IC Title

Wolfvinson has not responded in time and is out of the competition, so only one will be eliminated come Monday morning.

In other quizzing news, I have probably had my greatest experience in quizzes. I participated in Quiz in the North 3 held on Teesside where there was an individual quiz, a pairs buzzer quiz and a team quiz (both selected at random.) At the event there was four Eggheads (Kevin, Barry, Pat and David), The Chase's Paul Sinha, three Mastermind champions and a couple of Brain of Britain's. I thought it would be a good opportunity to test my general knowledge.

In the Individual event I did bang average coming 25th out of 40, I had a disaster in the classical culture round scoring only 2 out of 25! I was fearing the worst for the rest of the day, but my fortune soon changed round. In the Buzzer Pairs I was teamed with a chap called Alan, who has an impressive quiz resume including winning £125k on Who Wants to be a Millionaire. After the first round on 'Events in 2014-15' we scored 19 out of 20 giving us a lead of 3 points. We maintained our lead throughout and finished 1st out of 20 pairs. It wasn't all Alan who was answering all the questions,  it was a collaborative effort and I was buzzing off my tits when we won it.

Then came the team quiz and I was fortunate to be partnered with Paul Sinha and a bloke whose name escapes me but was a series winning captain on Only Connect. We came second behind Egghead David's team, but Paul was as nice as he appears on The Chase and complimented me with my obscure knowledge of sport as I was the only person to managed to guess this guys name in the picture quiz:

It was a thoroughly good day out and I have gained a couple of genuine celebrity friends.

That's Steve Nash isn't it. My NBA knowledge isn't great but I swear I've seen him before.

In response to how awesome you did, congrats man! Thats great work. The best I've done this year is pretty much winning my Uni pub quiz each week, occasionally with just one other person on our team. I do want to try something like an actual competition though, seems like it'd be up my street.

Nah it's John Stockton, half of one of the greates guard/forward pairings ever.

Congrats, that is truly amazing, and sounds very satisfying to be round that many quiz champions!!! I'll get the final quiz don't today

And thats why my brain doesn't work at 2am. That's embarrassing, think I got mixed up by Nash wearing the number 13 for the majority put 2 and 2 together and got 12.

On a plus side, eliminating me should be easy if its a NBA picture round on that regard.

The results are in below: (can anyone recommend a photo sharing website!)

Follow me in a timely manner and DCW’s failure in completing the Bohemian Rhapsody quiz has cost him his place in the competition. He only needed to score 51% to survive; his zero saves Boycie from elimination this week.

I can only apologise that you find me on top of the tree, I thought I posted an achievable score but had no idea the vast majority of UKFF’ers have Vexiphobia. Without the flags I would have finished 5th and martyngnr would have stormed it with a score of 98.5% . In order to make sure I don’t see myself at the top of the table next week I have purposely picked some categories that I am not comfortable with. Monkee, Murtz and Carbomb will be happy with some of the quizzes this week as one of their specialist subjects has been chosen.

Also be wary of the Simpsons quiz. It is a minefield quiz, so one wrong answer will end your game. If I get chance I will post more detailed analysis of week 1 scores

DCW and Wolfivinson are our casualties in the first week. Wolfvinson didn't

Whoa - I did NOT expect to be second there. I thought I'd done absolutely shit outside the flags.

Yeah, that Simpsons quiz did for me. Fuggin' hell.

Felt much better during this round of quizzes! Haven't watched Simpsons in ages so was glad that my memory from the first season was still decent (with quite a few guesses of course)

Thanks for making my subject of Scorsese films literally that, Scorsese films! I thought it would be something like 'name that actor's character'

Thanks for the heads-up on the Simpsons quiz :p Managed to play it safe.

Those single-chance quizzes, do you get a score of 0 if you enter an incorrect answer? Or does it just automatically close the quiz on the score you had at that time?

Fantastic selection of quizzes so far so thanks for that.

The Simpsons quiz got me as well, so that'll have a knock-on. Doing the US States/Capitals/Presidents quiz really opened my eyes to spelling again. I never realised that it was spelt

Connecticut

, this phonetically pissed in my porridge - I assumed that it was

Conneticut

...I just spent about a minute typing the EXACT same spelling - why did I do that?

Are the scores an ongoing tally, or is it just a week to week thing? I'm dangerously close to the bottom!

Flags I did really bad. I thought I did ok at Rugby though, given I know nothing about Rugby, did Ok at sitcoms. I would have got 100% on Queen, but for not knowing how to spell a few words, and I did get 100% on the IC champs.

Eliminations will go on weekly results and I will be keeping an overall total to make things interesting. So in essence there will be two winners: The knockout champ and the overall percentage champ.

On minefield quizzes the amount of correct answers you gain is the score you will post.

I have decided that Carbomb is Rainman after his performance in States, State capitals and Presidents quiz. He scored 100% which is amazingly bonkers knowledge!

Cracking set of quizzes again this week, really enjoying this game.  Simpsons done me in because I guessed wrongly on a characters name and it turns out there was a character that debuted later with the name I put in.  Thought I'd struggle with the F1 but ended up doing really good on that.
