Ferguson (the place, not the man.)

I haven't really read much of the evidence on this so feel in no way able to say who is innocent in this whole thing. My major issue is with the police force in general being so eager to shoot someone died anytime they feel "threatened". I'd expect police to actually be people able to assess threats in a better way than some paranoid old person in their home, but yet it seems they basically follow the same logic as the ED-209.

If only people did an ocular pat down more often.

Probably a stupid question but why can't they use tasers or OC/pepper spray in these situations?

Darren Wilson explained that couldn't be arsed carrying a taser/stun gun, despite one usually being available to him, because they're a bit heavy and awkward and he hasn't got any room for it on his dashboard so he elects to just have the option of shooting people to fucking death instead

He declared that he did have mace with him at that time but he felt that his life was at risk and therefore used lethal force.

The gun carried more weight than using mace in subduing his alledged attacker.

It seems confusing that people can't agree on how many times he was shot even. 6? 10? 12? What was it?

Officer Wilson fired 12 shots. 7 hit Mr Brown, 1 in the right hand, 3 in the right arm, 1 in the right side of the chest and 2 in the head.

Both are taken from evidence presented to the Grand Jury and released by St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch.

As a TASER instructor in a UK Force, TASER is never taken into Firearms situations until conventional firearms have disarmed the subject.

Engaging with TASER can result in 3 things, subject goes down, subject still attempts to aim and fires and finally subject is forced into firing because the current tenses his trigger finger, because the final two put police officers, the public and indeed the subject at the risk of getting shot, it's pointless.

If there were no firearm in hand, then TASER all day, mitigate the threat, cuffs on, search to disarm and nick 'em

Should add, UK forces are trained to a completely different standard to the US, Conventional Firearms are always the final resort, and we always seek to deal with a threat in a way that is the least intrusive to the rights of the individual.

Even the Mark Duggan's of the world.

In this case, the subject wasn't armed, right?

Weigh it up, subject is potentially armed, is it quicker for them to draw their firearm than it is for you to reholster your TASER to engage with sidearm?

The joy of all UK Firearms Officers working in pairs, one conventional firearm, one less than lethal option (TASER)

Not if they're black, apparently.

In related news, Rudolph Giuliani - he was Mayor during 9/11 in case he hasn't reminded you in the last 2 seconds - congratulated Obama for saying that police officers need to be trained. Unfortunately, he didn't stop there...

When the president was talking last night about training the police, of course, the police should be trained. He also should have spent 15 minutes on training the [black] community to stop killing each other.
