Finally got round to popping Netflix on to watch Seven Psychopaths on Sunday night. Thoroughly enjoyed it, and one of those flicks I'm going to watch a second time, with the knowledge it'll be a different film this time round. Everyone playing themselves tickled me thoroughly for some reason - the whole movie was almost one big joke on the in-joke genre, and I liked it :)

Recommended!

Timely, I've been eyeing that up and not committed to watching it. I'll definitely give it a stream. Thanks Maj.

Mumzie isn't well, so I stuck on a random DVD for her I bought from Poundland. "Amityville 2: The Possession". Actually quite scary really. Some bits are quite shocking for the early eighties (incest, pissing off priests etc). Well worth a pound.

Remember watching it as a youth. The bit where the camera spins around the room and stops on the possessed Sonny shit me up.

Went and saw Escape Plan yesterday afternoon, and as expected, absolutely loved it. The premise, simple as it is, would have made for a fun film regardless of who was cast but the fact of the matter is, Arnie and Sly literally fucking drip with charisma, so two hours of the two conversing back and forth is like a wet dream come true.

Truth is, two hours absolutely flies by. There

Escape plan stuff

Saw this at the weekend and surprised myself with how much I enjoyed it.

I went to see it yesterday and while I found it entertaining and a pretty good film, I thought it would have been better if it was around 90-minutes rather than nearly 2-hours. I enjoyed it and you get the feeling that Arnie and Sly would have enjoyed themselves when making it as well, but I just thought there was much more than could have been done with the idea and done with Arnie and Sly.

Ultimately it starts well and ends well, but the quality dips and the films drags a little in the middle portion. It delivers pretty much what you expect from it going in and from the trailers, and ends up being around a 3/5 film.

Watched Captain Philips, last night. I was completely knackered, but could not take my eyes off the screen and I have a horrible attention span as it is without heavy lids.

Hanks really cranks up the Oscar buzz in the last ten minutes and I'm not going to lie, I was quite moved by it.

Nothing truly outstanding mind, but very good. People whining it's a bit "America, Fuck Yeah" need to get a grip.

Yeah what the fuck was that about? It barely had one moment of that kind of thing.

Anyway, I really liked it too, got so lost in it. Welled up at the end. Great stuff.

Here's something I wasn't expecting - I really quite liked A Field In England.

That could be mostly to do with the fact that Reece Shearsmith and Peter Ferdinando are absolutely brilliant in it but, well, it was alright really.

Put in spoilers so Gladders doesn't lose any respect he might have left for me:

I watched Legally Blonde today and it's even more superb than I remember.

I think it may be the perfect chick flick.

Don't say that like it's a good thing!

I think it may be the perfect chick flick.

Doesn't the perfect chick flick have to have Hugh Grant being awkward (Four Weddings, Love Actually), Julia Roberts being annoying and clingy (My Best Friend's Wedding) or preferably both (Notting Hill)?

Anyhoo, just a general point that has crossed my mind recently. I was in the second-hand game/DVD shop the other day and I came across a copy of "9 Songs." Now, the fact the film received a release over here really made me laugh juxtaposed to the amount of censorship that the BBFC used to impose on films in the 80s and early 90s. I've always had a hard time believing they cut the comedic shagging scene (diving board, cowboy pistols et al) from Hot Shots Part Deux, for example. Anyway, more recently I acquired a copy of the 10th Anniversary Special of Basic Instinct, which has a second disc chock full of great extras, but upon watching it, I realized how hacked up the VHS release over here was - particularly notable being the graphic level of detail of Ashlyn Gere brutally murdering "Johnny Boz" in the opening scene. I couldn't quite believe how little of the stabbing actually made it into the cut that was released on tape over here even for a fucking 18 certificate. Did they really think even adults were complete wusses that would balk at the sight of a grisly death in a film almost entirely about sex and murder?

Still, I suppose I shouldn't have been that shocked. To this day, I don't understand a lot of the thought processes between what might or might not offend people. On my BBC set of Bottom, the word "gyppos" is dubbed over with "yobbos" and yet on the Young Ones set, the word "nigger" remains intact. So, it seems there's no problem with that word but we really wouldn't want to offend the traveling community.

"9 Songs" was absolutely hilarious. What the fuck was that about? I rented it cold from the PUBLIC LIBRARY about ten years ago and did I ever get a shock when I stuck it in (oo-er!). Jeezo.

It's basically a porno really. Wonder how it ever got passed. Wikipedia Page.
