Been listening to 38 Spesh a lot this week. And in particular his joint project with Kool G Rap from a few years back called ‘Son Of G Rap’. It’s quality. Favourite track is ‘The Meeting’. G Rap and 38 Spesh are both on point and the beat is produced Premier. Can’t whack it.

This from the same album is worth a listen as well. ‘Honest Truth’ feat. AZ;

Always seem to find myself going on a big KGR binge every few months but it’s usually the older stuff. This collaboration was pretty sweet though.

I quite like the new Nas album, King's Disease. 

I don't know how many times I'll revisit it, but he's definitely benefited from just having one producer (I know he did that with Nasir but I didn't really rate that), and he sounds good, if not always that interesting. Firm reunion as well so that elevates it as I love AZ and Cormega.

This line had me howling though, and not in a good way. It's just so absurd. "Still goin' deeper like I grew a new inch on my dick"

New Buckwild album Music Is My Religion is really good as well, and one that I'll definitely go back to. Don't know half the rappers on it, but that's no bad thing. Such an underrated producer.

Yeah I listened to some of that Buckwild yesterday. Standout for me was the track with Planet Asia;

Haven’t heard any of the Nas album yet but most of what I’ve read has been fairly positive. I’ll give it a go later.

I am a huge fan of hearing The LOX and the Griselda lads over a Large Pro beat. Of course Jadakiss nicks it with his verse "I'm live at the barbecue looking at the front door"

Still think Westside is the weakest out of this lot, but much prefer him on a feature like this, rather than a whole album.

Speaking of Griselda, Benny The Butcher continues to shine on everything he appears on, and has a nice verse on this track, and then Conway The Machine has a lovely new track as well, produced by Hit-Boy. Like bear shit in the woods these lads eh?

Had this on today and it's good. I've definitely enjoyed having it on, and although there is a couple of duffers (Story is one of the worst beats I've ever heard and the sample is WAY too loud), overall the album is strong. Only 14 tracks as well, a modern blessing.

Jadakiss continues his rock gargling transformation into Sean Dyche, and sounds raspier than ever. But yeah, it's good shit. DMX turns up on Bout Shit and is very chaotic and all over the gaff, in a good way, but the standout is My America where the lads get all emo and introspective.

That actually does it a disservice, as they honestly pour their hearts out on the track and show a vulnerability, which is always an interesting thing in hip hop.

Been listening to this new Jay Royale album ‘The Baltimore Housing Project’ over the last couple of days and I’m really liking it. Couple of tracks off it...

And it’s not off this album but there’s this track called ‘Roddy Piper’ which seems fitting to share on here. Plus it’s ace;

Definitely going to be keeping tabs on his stuff from now on.

Nice one @wandshogun09, I'd never heard of that dude, but he's pretty nice. Sounds a bit like Canibus, which is no bad thing. I'll check out the album for sure.

Never heard of Royalz but he produced this. I like it. The full LP is coming on 10th September.

It's already been out, and is well worth your time if you can get to see it. Never been a fan to be honest, but can appreciate their impact on the culture.

The new Conway The Machine album From King To A God has come out and it's really good.

It's mostly about selling drugs, and guns and sometimes that's all I want from my hip hop, but the most interesting tracks are when it strays away from the 'Griselda' sound. Fear Of GOD is probably better than anything Hit-Boy produced for the Nas album and features a funky, funky bassline, Anza gets a bit Organ Donor by DJ Shadow meets afrobeat.

Seen Everything But Jesus is nice and 70s soul-ish, and obviously benefits from Freddie Gibbs featuring, Nothing Less is an understated Premier beat and Conway sounds great over it, but the stand out is the Erick Sermon produced  Forever Dropping Tears is the best track on the album. Sounds really 80s R&B and I've always liked Sermon as a producer.

I'll definitely come back to this album, but I've decided that Westside Gunn is shit, and I never want to hear him ever again.

Also, I haven't had a chance to check this out yet, but this features a feature length documentary on 93 Til Infinity, footage from past Hiero Day performances and some interviews with the involved parties. Seen it get a lot of praise, and thought it would be worthwhile to share (don't blame me if it's shit though)

I’m with you on Westside Gunn. There are some tracks of his I really like (love that Perfect Plex one) but on the whole he just annoys me and he’s ruined many an otherwise good song for me and rendered great verses from Conway and Benny wasted.

I liked the Conway album a lot. Again, I felt like Gunn ruined the track with Conway and Benny but on the whole it’s a pretty sweet album.

‘Forever Droppin Tears’ was a highlight for me too. I’m not usually keen on a track that long but I dug that one. Conway’s verse (around 2:45 in) on the death of Shay (Griselda producer) who passed just the other week makes the song for me.
