This is one of our dogs Wren. We found a cancerous tumour on her face just before christmas, most aggressive form on the scale. 

2 weeks ago, finished her chemo and all looks OK.

It's a sad day in our house: my big girl had to leave us today. After spotting a lump which had increased noticeably over a weekend, I took Heidi to the vet last week. I got the results of a biopsy on Monday, which showed that she had cancer, and that it had reached her lungs. We observed a drastic decline overnight, with the result that I booked her an emergency appointment today ... and made the call I needed to in her best interest. Heidi was just short of 16, and died in her best friend's arms. I'm not one for sentimentality outside of my bond with her but I have to finish by saying: I loved loving her.

I was enamoured with her on Day One!

She didn't have much between the ears – when the brains were being handed out she rejoined the queue for hearts – but even she could figure out without a problem that she was very, very loved. I'm going to miss her dreadfully, although I'm grateful I got this long with her. Grief is the price we pay for love, and it's all worth it to have had my time with her.

You have an amazing memory! She was only ever “Heidi Honeycoat” if getting told off, so rarely, and for comic effect. I quite often addressed her as “Honeycoat”, though, including when saying goodbye to her. I thought that it was nice to have a personal form which only I used. Other nicknames included: “Dad's Favourite”.

Pebbles (15 next month) appears to be in fine fettle, although I suppose I should bear in mind that she's older than her mother became. She's kept up her usual routine; this was her whilst I was informing people yesterday evening. (I took the pic because her breeder had posted condolences, so I wanted to show that I was being kept company.)

I think Pebbles is likely to be under-exposed in this topic because Heidi was predominant to me. (Such a beautiful, affectionate cat.) They weren't bonded. Pebbles wanted to be but Heidi wasn't happy to have to share. Probably the only time they've ever done something together over a prolonged period happened when Pebbles was still a kitten and we came back from holiday to see that we must've left the bedroom door open:

That might be the last time either of them didn't have their winter coat: it's been a near-permanent appendage ever since.

She does have a cuddly side, though, as long as she thinks she's not in danger of getting caught by her sister. I sometimes find it hard to get work done.

And on occasion they'd combine to hold me off. “Nice set-up you've got here. Be a shame if something happened to it.” Magically the Dreamies would come out of the cupboard.

She's quite a looker herself:

My long-term memory is a bit freakish, short-term is terrible. I remember your particular post, though, because it was the first time I'd ever heard of anyone giving cats surnames, especially ones that suited them.

Sorry to hear that, Ronnie. It’s such an awful pain and only comes with the most special bonds. What a gorgeous girl. Are they a particular breed?

Ronette is very allergic to cats so the girls are a hypoallergenic breed: Siberians. Luckily for us, they happen to be stunning!

(If you're allergic to cats in particular rather than animals in general, there's a good chance that the cause is a protein in their saliva. Since they groom themselves and their fur ends up flying about the house during the day, that protein ends up all over the house. In Siberians the protein is a trace element, barely there in comparison to other cats.)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. I’m glad you get to find a way around the allergy. I didn’t know about them so just looked them up and they sound great, it mentioned them being dog-like in their relationships with people. We have Norwegians who can be like that, they are full of personality and can be far too intelligent if they bother.

My sister has always been the dog person of the family and in January she had to have her dog Bob put to sleep. He had an incurable problem that was just starting to cause him a lot of pain, but he was the happiest dog right up to the end. We were all heartbroken but it was the best thing for him to retain some dignity, which he more than deserved. 

So my sister was without a dog and she wanted another, and last week the new lad arrived. 

sorry about the wonky picture but the little bugger wont stay still. His name is Mike and he's a tiny little prick. His dad is a pedigree Jack Russell and his mum is a Jack Russell/Dachshund cross. 

So just over a year on and that cute little bundle of joy has turned into this prick. 

This is one of the rare moments that he isn't begging for a treat, whipping me with a toy that he is ragdolling and either chasing or running away from a cat. He's also the springiest dog I've ever come across. The little bugger can leap for England.

Got plasterers in doing some work in the office, which means a fair bit of disruption and furniture being moved around, but Cimma isn't letting that deter her from sitting on her cat tree.
