Positivity Thread!

Recommended Posts

What with all the doom and gloom of the recession and austerity measures, I decided it's time to lighten the mood, devoting a thread to positive happenings and actions taken where you live or anywhere else for that matter! :)

So this is the place to post anything you like related to people helping others, charity work, health tips - whatever ya fancy

Our aims are to have fun, be kind and inspire as many people as possible to do the same. Performing both small and large scale Random Acts of Kindness is what we do. It’s a great privilege to be able to work together with so many kind volunteers, companies and charities to make so many people happy.

These guys amaze me, they contact businesses to donate items, then randomly give away to strangers in the street! The Kindness Offensive is based in London, now it's catching on, inspiring others such as a voluntary group local to me - Zerogov (Less Fear, More Love), who've done their own Kindness Offensive in Boscombe (part of Bournemouth). I'll post the youtube vid a bit later.

EDIT:

Expanding on the theme contribute with your new years resolutions you are doing well at - giving up smoking, losing weight, going to gym, job hunting or starting a news business.

I like the idea of this thread, there is way way too much bad news out there.

Our local promotion in Hull (New Generation Wrestling) is located in one of the more deprived areas of the city. We have a show on 5th Febuary called "Re-Generation", which is rather aptly named as we fully intend to Regenerate the venue. Sliding illuminated doors, big screen, 3N0. ramps, banners, new canvas & corner pads, smoke, lights. The whole 9 yards!

Bringing Las Vegas to Longhill has been a whole lot of hard work but ultimately worth it! Images of this project will no doubt be on the "Live Events" Thread after the show.

I love the kindness offensive! Makes me feel good inside.

Well I've started hitting the gym, felt way better until I went out on Sat night, ugh! So yeah. Listening to a ton of music, trying to write loads of stuff as well. Started a blog of film reviews (no doubt it'll get the piss taken out of it but here it is!)

Just before christmas, I lost a couple of really close mates, and so I've been doing a fair few bits and bobs for PAPYRUS.

http://www.papyrus-uk.org/

It's a bit of a taboo subject for a lot of people, but Papyrus do a great job of prevention, and help for the aftermath. Top cause, worth a few bob of anyone's money.

A couple of weeks before Christmas i found 400 quid in cash lying on the floor in my local Asda. It was first thing in morning and shop was practically empty. I took it to the customer service desk straight away and handed it in. They took my details should they need to contact me and a couple of hours later a wee old man phoned to thank me for handing it in. Turns out he had lifted his pension and was shopping for his grandkids etc and it fell out his pocket when he went for a hankie.

Not once did i think about keeping it. Poor auld bugger would have been gutted losing that kinda cash so near Xmas. I'm more happy he got it back.Although my mates did rib me for being so honest.

I'll happily donate. This particular subject has made a great impact on my extended family in the last few years.

Similar thing happened to me, but at a cashpoint at Tesco.

Handed it in to the police, as the cashpoint didn't belong to Tesco (that's how it works) - though in my instance, nobody claimed it and I got to keep the

Mate, that's a great story. Genuinely brightened my day up, that has. Good man for doing something so decent.

Nominated.

There was a very similar story on Radio 2 the other day. The listener went into a chippy & found the weeks takings on the floor in an envelope. He handed it over to the owner of the chip shop, who rewarded him by charging him full price for his dinner! I felt bad for laughing, but ould not help myself!

I tip my cap to you though, well done Sir.

I know its the 'positivity thread'.. but that was pure gold, thanks!

To add to the topic, its a strange one. I am a teacher and care worker in a specialist disabilities college and work with/teach and provide care for students with a lot of different disabilities aged between 18-25. The care side is what you would expect, bathrooms and dinners! Whilst the teaching side is classroom based (obviously at low level abilities) and life skills sessions.

The reason i say its a strange one is because people say 'thats amazing you can do that' etc etc, but i honestly dont understand that way of thinking purely because its my job and ive done it for years (its the norm).

I mean yes, i appreciate what they are getting at to some extent, but because its the norm it doesnt really strike me as anything more than my job.

Errr, ive been on a new diet for the last 7-8 months (diets a strong word, im just not eating or drinking shit) ive managed to carry it on through the new year which im chuffed with.

A lot of the stuff above my post is bloody great, nice one everyone.

Awesome stuff here.

At the start of January, I assigned myself seven tasks to do before this year is out. They vary between serious, daft, easy and hard - some I thought I would've done years ago. I told my friends I'd set them but refused to say what they were, as they are things I need to do alone and didn't want the "hindering, not helping" people sticking their oar in and then saying I couldn't have done it without them. My reason for telling them was so I could use it as an incentive to get them done. To prevent me from changing what they were, I typed them up, numbered them, blacked them out and put them on Facebook. So the effort it would take to substitute a task for a new one with similar-looking letters may as well be put towards completing a task I've already set. I just wish I'd done something like this years ago.
