@FLipsfind yourself a copy of Capcom Vs SNK 2. A fantastic fighting game. I remember spending an evening with @air_raidpitting my Dan against him using every character in the game.

The only subsequent game in the SF family that rivalled Alpha 3 in the “played it for absolutely years” stakes. Glorious colours, chunky sounds and while not the melodies from the CPS heyday, some catchy music. The final bonus stage is a background I loved nearly as much as Australia from Alpha 2. Fabulous cast of characters where I became obsessed with “getting good with” new regulars and learning their nuances - Mai and Rock especially, pulling off a Raging Storm was every bit as satisfying as a Shungokusatsu, while my mate Karl became maddeningly efficient as Haohmaru. The custom Groove settings and facility to change character names and colours extended the lifespan further still…. I still have nightmares about fighting my odd mate Thom as his creation “UBRRRUGAL!!!”

Great find

Is it actually any good?

I've ignored it previously as I thought the cover looked awful and had little faith in a TV show based game

No it’s awful but it’s just in that “so bad it’s worth a laugh” category, and it has the proper cast in it. More a curiosity than an actual good addition to my library.

Tekken 4 is fine, but a bit like the red-headed step-child of the Tekken series. Keep an eye out in CEX for Tekken 5 as it comes with arcade ports of Tekken 1, 2, and 3.

Gran Turismo 4 is arguably the peak of the whole series.

Which Simpsons game was it? Goes without saying that if a copy of Hit & Run crosses your path it's definitely one to have a crack of. The Street Fighter Alpha Anthology is good, but fighting games can be like rocking horse poop nowadays.

I used to have Capcom vs SNK 2 on the Gamecube growing up and really enjoyed it. I saw it yesterday in Cash Converters but it was I think £20 so gave it a miss.
I was after Tekken 4 specifically because it was the outlier in the series and me and one of my mates hammered it as kids. Might get 5 eventually though, as I will with GT4 when I see it.

I like both the Simpsons car games, Road Rage and Hit and Run. I have them on my Gamecube though and Hit and Run was expensive on PS2 in CEX as well.

I've noticed that PS2 games are finally creeping up in price, for years you could get most of the games you bought for a quid in CEX. Some of the rarer ones have shot up, too, i recently got a fair bit of money for games like Gregory Horror Show which wasn't in even good condition.

I've been tempted to fully mod a console now that loading games from an SSD is much simpler with some gear bits of software and replace that horrible noisy fan with a faster silent one. Those DVD drives are slowly dying off and it's more hassle to replace them.

I remember getting my PS2 for Christmas off my gran when I dropped out of Uni. I've still got it, but the pads I've got are third parry from Klas Ohlsson. They're pretty much the same look and build quality of a Dualshock 2 though, and they were a tenner each. I picked up a Mayflash fight stick for ÂŁ30 which does the job.

I also have a shed load of fighting games and compilations on it, which will surprise nobody who knows me. AThere's a reason it was the biggest selling console of all time, and it's not just because it was cheaper than buying a DVD player in some cases.

As an SNK fanboy, I made sure to get Capcom vs. SNK and Capcom vs. SNK Pro on the Dreamcast, and Capcom vs. SNK 2 and SNK vs. Capcom Chaos on the PS2. They're all absolutely brilliant, but I have to say I love SVC Chaos the most - love those gritty SNK graphics, plus you have Mr. Karate and Evil Ken. Tons of fun.

I also have the first game that was ever released in that project, SNK vs. Capcom: Millennium Fighting, on the Neo-Geo Pocket Colour, which is still an absolutely superb game.

One of my favourite characters in CVS, and who also shows up in the PSP version of Street Fighter Alpha/Zero 3, is Eagle - we hadn't seen him since SF1, and they did a bloody good job of updating him. I love me a counters specialist, and he's fucking skill.

Does running them off an SSD improve loading times? Sounds like it could be a fun project.

As a slave to Capcom I was the opposite and preferred the cartoon nature of CVSNK2. Shows what happens when two houses make their own slant on a vs game. Thought the controls were a step backwards too. But still enjoyable.

A tad, but not as much as you'd expect from an SSD because the console can't read as fast as a modern motherboard. I'd mainly get an SSD as there's no moving parts and a 1tb is relatively cheap now.

Yeah I put an SSD in my PS4 hoping it would run like shit off a shovel, but it actually only really knocked few seconds off of loading times. Disappointing.

I think it's down to fandom, really - I always preferred the King of Fighters style controls with four buttons. Nothing wrong with SF's six-button, but always felt a bit clunky with it. Also liked some of the commands that you don't get with SF, like roll evades for every character by pressing punch + kick, instead of as a specialised move.

I'm ambivalent on the SNK "Just Defend" system vs. the Capcom "Parry" system.

Now that Terry and Mai are coming to Street Fighter 6 I’m praying for a re-release of Capcom Vs SNK 2, my favourite fighter of all time along with Third Strike.

My PS2 copy still gets a lot of play time but before that I was always in the London Trocadero battering everyone who dared sit on the opposite cab to disrupt my game to play 2 player.

SVC Chaos is an overlooked gem. Those Capcom characters in the SNK style were beautiful.

The funniest thing about CVS2 is that they did new sprites for everybody in the game apart from Morrigan, who was still that Darkstalkers sprite. I can't decide whether it was a case of "if it ain't broken don't fix it" or just not being bothered because they probably won't do anything with Darkstalkers.

I a kind of retro, but also kind of new twist I picked up Deathwish Enforcers in a sale on Switch. It's an homage/spiritual sequel to Sunset Riders with a 60s/70s style to it, and a lot of effort has gone into it. The first level is pretty much the first level of Sunset Riders, right down to the boss fight which might as well be the Sir Richard Rose fight.

There are four characters: Two with Pistols, and two with shotguns, a pre-order special edition also came with an additional character who was inspired by Roger Moore's Bond. Hopefully he turns up as DLC somewhere down the line.

It's tough, and you only get 9 credits, but it does let you start afresh from the last level you were on. A lot of fun, especially if you liked those turn of the 90s Konami beat em ups and run and guns.

Megadrive game.. Like on a cartridge?

Yeah, there's been a fair few over the past few years as PCB's are easier to get developed. Even the legendary Yuzo Koshiro and his family business is putting out a new one this year called Earthion.

It's the 360 stuff creeping up now
