It's at the point now where I wouldn't be against Palhares having his license taken off him. Ridiculous. How many chances do you give him?

In the past there's been one or two instances of Palhares holding onto subs where it's been literally a fraction of a second too long and I think people went a bit overboard due to his previous. But this was one of his more obvious ones. It was horrible. Shields was tapping frantically in the kimura, almost right away and repeatedly. And it wasn't a light little Fedor-Werdum tap. He was practically spanking Palhares like a naughty schoolgirl. There's no way Palhares didn't know Shields was tapping and he not only held onto the kimura, he continued to crank it even more. Completely idefensible.

The fucked up thing is, Palhares is committing career suicide. Take away his fetish for holding onto submissions too long and he's actually in his career-best form by miles. He's on a four fight win streak of submissions over Jake Shields, Jon Fitch, Steve Carl and Mike Pierce. Three of those finishes came in 90 seconds or less. That's a Ronda Rousey-level run. Yet his own cuntiness has made people totally forget his outstanding accomplishments and everyone's instead talking about what a dangerous wanker he is.

It baffles me. In interviews and stuff he seems so soft spoken and humble. He trains under Murilo Bustamante who always came across as one of the real gents of MMA, even back in the wild west days of the sport. He's a product of Team Nogueira - you don't get any more classy than the Nogs. Yet here he is being an absolute loose cannon and needlessly putting peoples' careers in jeopardy. Something seems to happen when the cage door closes and he turns into a lunatic. He's had so many strange moments in fights where the red mist seems to descend and his head just completely goes. Like Paulo Filho but way worse because he's going to end someone's career the way he's going.

I'm a big fan of Palhares' skills, but he's a fucking reckless bellend.

Hopefully a water pistol filled with diarreah. And when he taps out, spray him with more. That boy needs a wakeup call.

Why would anybody accept a fight with him? You'd have to be out of your mind to go into a fight with someone you know isn't going to fight by the same rules as you - you might as well tie a hand behind your back.

People talk about Rousey being MMA's equivalent to Mike Tyson? Is she fuck, it's Palhares. Just watching him you get this feeling of a guy who really wants to fucking hurt people, and of someone who's mentally unhinged.

That's not fair, though.

She's never cranked a submission after a tap, nor has she gouged eyes or any other daft shit.

She's intense as fuck and a proper murderer, but she's never been anything but professional. She's most likely Dana's idea of the perfect professional Mixed Martial Artist.

She couldn't be further from Palhares.

What are you talking about? I'm not comparing Rousey to Palhares!

I'm saying that Palhares is closer to being the MMA equivlant of Tyson than Rousey is, precisely because of his crazy antics!

i'd be lying if i didn't say the same Dave

As dangerous as it is the whole situation makes Palhares a must-see fighter for me. The Mike Tyson-analogy is a good one, you don't just lose to Palhares he fucking damages you. He creates a sense of anticipation in the cage that few others can create from a spectator standpoint. When he bucked Shields off and almost caught him in a heel hook in round i shit my pants.

Still, im not defending his actions, the guy is unhinged and if i were a fighter i'd think twice about going anywhere near the cage with him...from a spectator viewpoint though, im tuning in to see the madness.

It was actually a quality scrap, i think that sense of anticipation of something may happen kept me on the edge of my seat. Shields was doing his thing for two rounds, he seemed to tire in round 3 though and Palhares just went into kill mode, impressive gas tank from him too.

Where does everyone stand on the eye gouging? i couldn't see anything specifically, the fingers were cloes to the eyes but it was tough to see.

Shields posted that, he's bruised up around the eyes but surely eye gouging would cause significant damage to the actual eyeball? other than the little bit of redness in one eye they don't look too bad.

Shields was laying it on thick I reckon. Was there some eye-gouging? Yeah, slightly. He wasn't digging his fingers in there like Ric Flair though.

Most of that bruising on his left eye is a result of punches taken, which resulted in stitches by the looks of it. But aye, couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!

Is Shields even a dick? Ive disliked him for that long now i cant even remember if there was a reason for it in the first place?
