Slightly out of the blue but don't know how many of you have checked out a band called PUP, they released there debut album last year but it's great. Seen them at Reading too and where great live. Well worth checking out!

They were utter shite to be brutally honest. Everyone i spoke to on the day while they were on felt the same. Having them sandwiched between the biggest up and coming UK rock act of they year and legends like Pixies was shocking booking. They just didn't belong on that show at all. I get that they have a level of popularity, but it's not with that crowd. Was painful to watch. It was actually during their set that i was nattering to Ben from RB, so you can tell how much they were holding my attention lol.

Are they one of those bands that can't get anywhere near the level of what you hear on the album? I bought "The national health" recently and it's fairly enjoyable. They seem a bit out of place on a Metal/Punk/Rock thread mind, they're about as indie as they come.

Have never listened to any of their albums, so can't comment. But have had the unfortunate honour of seeing them live twice lol. It's very pop indie, but the lead singer overplays his part a lot. Having them wedged between Royal Blood and Pixies was just really bad booking, as i'm sure they go down mint with the right crowd. The first time i saw some of them live, was Kendal Calling 2012, i say some as i buggered off to Watch Pip vs Le Sac. They went down pretty well in the headline slot there with the right crowd. But at the Pixies gig they bombed hard. Aside from a mother and teenage son singing along passionately, no one really cared beyond "when are thye coming off?". Any attempts at humour by the lead singer bombed also.  It's just not a band i can ever see myself enjoying as i find their music bland and uninspired. When you put them on after Royal Blood, it's so easy to see every area they're lacking in. I had a couple of friends giving me the old "you don't like them because they're not metal" talk, but the truth is i'm in to music if it's good. Regardless of genre, more so than the friends that knock me for being a metalhead lol.

so thoughts on the passing of Wayne Static?

It's sad news, 48 years of age. The initial reports seemed to suggest it was drug related but his fiance has come out since and said it wasn't. I ain't going to pretend i was a massive Static/Static-X fan but I loved Wisconsin Death Trip back in the day, i even remember the day i picked it up at the St. David's Hall record fair (great times). I could never get into the follow up Machine, a mate of mine had it and it just never clicked for me, it's widely regarded as the band's best album though and i really need to properly re-visit it. I've dabbled in and out of the discography since and i enjoy it if im up for that catchy industrial style pomp.

I hoped to see Wayne Static at some point though (he was touring Static X under his own name in the end), i went to see them at Download in '05 but they pulled out on the day, that's the closest i ever got.

RIP Wayne Static.

Machine was a fantastic record, I've got some great memories of jumping around in mosh pits and on dance floors to 'This Is Not' and 'Black and White'.  Certainly the first two are amongst my favourites but anything after that I've never been able to get into.

That being said, every time I've caught them live (usually at festivals, if I'm honest) they've been so much fun to watch. Shame you missed them Ebb, you seem to get to more gigs than me!

It's sad and a little shocking but realistically, at nearly 50 with an apparent history of drug use, we probably shouldn't be too surprised. And with Machine being well over a decade ago, and likely his peak, at least he achieved something pretty great.

Phill Rudd charged with being involved in an attempt to hire a hitman to kill two men and also drug possesion.

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd on New Zealand murder plot charge

The drummer of the hard rock group AC/DC, Phil Rudd, has appeared in a New Zealand court on charges of attempting to arrange a murder.

Mr Rudd, who was born in Australia, has also been charged with possessing the drugs methamphetamine and cannabis, and of making threats to kill.

The musician's waterfront house in Tauranga, on New Zealand's North Island, was raided on Thursday morning.

AC/DC are due to release a new album later this year.

Mr Rudd, 60, was released on bail after a brief appearance at Tauranga district court.

As part of his bail conditions, he must not have any contact with anyone involved in the alleged murder plot.

Local media reports say that the alleged plot targeted two men. The judge ruled that their names as well as that of the alleged hit-man cannot be revealed.

Mr Rudd will appear in court again on 27 November. He has yet to enter a plea.

nder New Zealand law, the charge of attempting to "procure" a murder carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years.

A police official quoted by the SunLive news website said the information that led to the raid on the house was provided by a member of the public.

Mr Rudd was kicked out of the band in 1983 and rejoined in 1994.

But he did not appear in a new photo of band members released last month to promote their upcoming album Rock Or Bust, and was reportedly absent from the filming of a new music video, prompting online speculation about whether he was still in the band.
