Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted February 21, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 21, 2014 Smug looking prick, isn't he? Him and his ridiculously developed and defined triceps.
Loki
De Niro will never be a "full on joke", regardless of what an average director like Russell can do for him. Â You have seen hsi recent output? His best performance for years was in Silver Linings, and he's good in his cameo on in American Hustle. I would say those two parts remind people that De Niro can still be excellent. Maybe I was harsh with 'full on joke' but his reputation has slightly suffered, and at the moment O Russel's films are the only ones he shows how good he is. Â Yes, his reputation has slightly suffered if you're an idiot who doesn't really know any of his achievements. But ultimately he can be in whatever shite he wants as he will always be remembered as the guy who did Once Upon A Time In America, Midnight Run, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, The King Of Comedy, Taxi Driver, The Deer Hunter, The Godfather Part 2, Brazil, The Untouchables, Cape Fear and so on. No amount of nondescript films is ever going to massively affect his reputation. Â You're also confusing quality of performance with quality of films. I've seen Meet The Parents, for instance. It's shit. But he's not. And he almost never is. Â I don't think his long-term repuation will suffer. But at one point he was a guarantee that the film would be worth watching. Now, I'll generally avoid it. And his performances are often essentially caricatures of characters did did in his pomp. He's like a living highlight reel of himself. That's why I enjoyed his cameo in American Hustle, as although he was a mafioso again, it was a different character and performance.
GalaxyV.2
That was my point. I really like De Niro, I'm a big fan. But it's been rather painful to see him do some of these roles. He'll always be regarded as acting royalty, but in many ways his later roles may cause a huge BUT at the end of an appraisal of his work. I don't want that to be the case

GalaxyV.2
Of course but that wasn't what I was saying.
Paid Members Maverick Posted February 21, 2014 Paid Members Share Posted February 21, 2014 Grudge Match is rather enjoyable, despite a fleet of militant movie buff's protests to the contrary. Agreed a fun movie, would be enjoyed by any Stallone or De Niro fan i'd imagine. Much better than I expected and I expected to like it. Looks insane No Manc accent? That was 90% of his act! Â No references to his mum or the shopping he has to get for her either. I'm worried about this... Â It is a fictional story loosely inspired by Frank Sidebottom, the persona of cult musician and comedy legend Chris Sievey, as well as other outsider musicians like Daniel Johnston and Captain Beefheart.
