TibBo Posted Thursday at 10:09 PM Posted Thursday at 10:09 PM Crazy that Bruce has been in that position for 40 years! Never heard anyone say he was the root of any great ideas or angles. Brother Love must be the most fast-forwarded segments of the golden era. Quote

From what he's said in his podcasts he seemed to be more backstage pre tapes etc Quote
TibBo Posted Thursday at 10:40 PM Posted Thursday at 10:40 PM I know Gene and Mooney both used to spend endless hours on the pre-tapes and localised promos etc. I think Bruce was more involved with the theatrical stuff like the Jake/warrior snakeman promos in 91 etc? Even so, you would think someone (other than Bruce) would have something good to say about him after 40 years. Quote

Except for the 12 or so (in total over 2 stints) years he was ex communicado from the company. Still impressive, but he had his time in the wilderness too! Quote

Looks like just replacing one twat with another to me. I was going to ask the same thing, I don't think Shawn Michaels' NXT has been particularly good, and at times it's veered into proper Vince McMahonery with the kind of gimmicks and skits he'd have gone wild for - Joe Hendry popping out of a fridge when someone said his name and Chase U, for example. Some people probably do enjoy that kind of thing, particularly if they have a nostalgia for 1992-1995 WWE, but it's not for me. It'll be semi-interesting to see who replaces him in NXT, though - I'd have to assume Punk would be the frontrunner if it wasn't for the fact he's still an active performer. But bloody hell, who'd have thought four years ago that we'd be in a situation in which CM Punk was not only back in WWE, but he was a genuine contender for a corporate job in the company. And a Saudi regular. Quote

Paid Members BomberPat Posted Friday at 09:52 AM Paid Members Posted Friday at 09:52 AM Other than Cody Rhodes at that Wrestlemania where, after winning the World Title in the main event of the biggest show of the year, he proceeded to thank all the corporate suits in the back and put them over, has anyone ever talked about Bruce Prichard as a great writer, a great booker, or someone who was a significant influence on their career? Maybe Kane? That's the only gimmick I ever hear him given credit for. What I'm saying is that it feels like a sideways move. It's one guy who's completely embedded in the system being replaced by another, only the new guy has more cred on account of having been a good wrestler, which is often enough to convince people that they're also a good booker even when the actual evidence doesn't really support that. I don't know how actively involved Prichard was with day-to-day creative, and I don't suspect there to be any noticeable change to what you see on TV (though I fully expect that the moment anything half-decent happens, social media will fill up with "HBK IS COOKING~!" posts, treating it like the dawn of a new era), so the more interesting outcome might be what happens to NXT, where it's small scale enough and at enough of a remove from the big corporate interests that a change of booker could have a measurable impact. But I also wonder if they treat it like AAA, and give a figurehead "booker" position to a big name retired wrestler, while the actual business of booking the show is largely managed by people who actually know what they're doing. Makes sense, I suppose. Puts him in an awkward position should they ever sign his son, though. Has WWE ever been in a situation when one of their head bookers has had to deal with the fact their child is an active wrestler? Obviously Shane McMahon wrestled from time-to-time, but that's not quite the same. Quote

Usually, the booker/kid combo tended to happen in other promotions, I think - the Rhodes, the Jarretts, the Watts, the Gagnes. Edited Friday at 10:20 AM by Carbomb Paul Rideout Quote

Spend half his salary on Starbucks gift cards. I remember HBK on the Edge & Christian podcast and they asked him who he thought was going to be the next big stars out of NXT and all he talked about was all the cool moves people were doing. No characters, promos, ring work, just cool moves. I think of that every time I see a clip from NXT and it's almost always some utterly generic and forgettable super athlete doing an incredibly convoluted dumb high spot. At the very least NXT call ups won't have their character changed the moment they turn up on Raw or Smackdown once HBK takes over, you'd hope for an easier week to week watch as well Quote
