The King of Old School Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago You can't just relegate them to the Championship, there's a good portion of the older fanbase that would love a nostalgia tour of that league and to win it with ease before settling back into the Elite again. I think they should be hit with a 30 point deduction every season to marry up when this started, just renders them a bottom to mid table club for the foreseeable. Quote

Paid Members RedTwoster Posted 7 hours ago Paid Members Posted 7 hours ago I don't think it's even possible that there will be a solution to this that feels satisfactory to anyone given the scale and complexity of it. I also think the appeal process and next steps will take years, as Man City take every legal avenue available to them to prevent punishment. The most interesting part will be whether or not other clubs take legal action. Even with the money City have, this strikes me as the kind of thing that could wipe the club from existence. The length of time this was happening and the number of clubs who could make a claim has me wondering if they will even survive this. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted 7 hours ago Paid Members Posted 7 hours ago What also needs to be taken into consideration is that although the investigation only covers until 2018, there has to be some consideration taken for the years after that. They have continued to benefit from what they were doing those years, it's not like the club completely changed overnight, ripped everything up and started again. They are where they are because of what they were doing then. Even if they were expelled from the Premier League and Football League and dumped into the non-leagues, the financial fallout of this is almost impossible to calculate. Every club that's played against them in cups and league matches in that period has a genuine financial claim against them, both domestically and continentally. But then you also have individual claims based on contracts so many players and staff members have based on achievements. The potential costs are astronomical. There would have been a time where, even despite my allegiances past and present, I wouldn't have wanted them to stop existing. They're one of the great old football clubs in existence. But would anyone aside from their own fans, obviously, shed a tear if they were wound up tomorrow because of everything they've done and stood for the last nearly 20 years? No. Their presence in any fixtures, leagues and competitions from this point on is a mockery of the whole system. They need to become the new Bury or Darlington and start again anew from the bottom. I bet even with a 30 point deduction they'd be in with a shout of qualifying for Europe. If they win the conference league they'd qualify for the following season's Europa league. Still not really much of a punishment. Kick them out of the FA Cup and make it 40 points a season so they've got no way into European football for that period? Quote

Only thing that's certain is that City will win more leagues/trophies before any appeal is heard or any decisions made. Quote

Great post and a key point tht isn't being made enough. The cheating being investigated is limited to 2009-2018 but that period of over-spending and false accounting laid the foundation for them to go on to win 4 PL titles in a row and a Champions League while recording record revenues and renovating the stadium. They are now easily compliant because they cheated their way into a position where TV income, prize money, matchday revenue and sponsorship dwarfed almost everyone else. I've hated these fuckers for a long time. I've said it before but the people celebrating them winning titles because Liverpool or Arsenal or United don't are absolute cretins. The PL need to make a real statement of this. Between this and the Chelsea fiasco, there are 5 PL titles in the 2010s that should be Juve'd. The look for the PL is very, very poor. Quote
Ironic Indie Lad Posted 5 hours ago Posted 5 hours ago This is exactly why the punishment needs to be nuclear. If its not that bad, the message is that you can cheat your way to the top table if you can absorb the costs. I don't want to see any pundits dance around this either. I know its a grey area everyone is dancing around at the moment because Ornstein has posted about it and Khaldoon has responded. As soon as the premier league confirms it then the way everyone talks about City has to change dramatically. I don't want to see any reverence for their fake treble, their fake 4 in a row, their fake 100 point season. I certainly don't want to see any claims that Guardiola's premier league legacy is above Alex Ferguson. Quote
