Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted January 31 Paid Members Posted January 31 Who realistically can I watch without sullying myself with blood money grabbers, panderers, friends of paedo's and outright abusers? I got my binoculars out and scanned the moral high ground that's been claimed in the Rumble thread by the people who are always keen to tell us all how morally superior they are because they don't watch WWE and it gave me a moment to pause for thought. Who can I watch and who can we all watch because obviously the moral high ground is important, and must be brought up constantly. AEW? Obviously not, and not ROH by association. TNA? Then I remember the Trey Miguel situation of the past few weeks, so no thanks. Then I thought about closer to home. Progress, definitely not, LDN, no, Megaslam, nope. So realistically who can I watch? I ask because I would like the people breathing the rarified moral air they think they are breathing to either suggest a company I can watch or shut the fuck up. Its boring and repetitive and if that's what I wanted then I'd watch the best of Seth Rollins on a continuous loop, which is basically 4 minutes of Seth, 360 times per day. Quote

Paid Members Arch Stanton Posted January 31 Paid Members Posted January 31 You can watch Soft (Moral High) Ground Wrestling. Those lads in Uganda. I'm saying this, but I haven't actually run a background check to find out if they're all on the up and up. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted January 31 Members Posted January 31 There probably isn't one, and everyone has their line in the sand (there is some good discussion of this in the off topic boycott thread if I remember correctly) and good on those who genuinely don't watch a product they did for years. That is actually commendable. Sorry to go off topic but it's like watching modern day top flight football and moaning about it being "big business" Well of course it is, it's 60 years since jumpers for goalposts and getting in for a shilling. That's not to say you can't be annoyed or disappointed by it all, but there comes a point where you almost just have to accept it all, otherwise you'd just go mental having circular arguments with yourself. Unfortunately if you support a top flight team, they are going to be funded/backed by billionaires who are shits, because as we all know there is no such thing as a good billionaire. I know my line in the sand when it comes to my team and that's good enough for me. Same as the World Cup that was in Qatar, and the one that will be in Saudi Arabia. I don't think the majority of people who watched and will watch those completely forget about what goes in those countries, or don't care. It's not black and white, which is what most people make it. You watched the World Cup, therefore you don't care about the death of migrant workers or human rights abuses. Grow up. It's nuanced as we all are as humans. I watch WWE probably 5 times a year, if that makes me a bad person, well so be it. I know who I am, my family and few friends know who I am and what I'm about and stand for, and that's enough for me. I genuinely don't care what anyone else thinks, not in an arrogant way, I just never have and never will (promo over) Saying that there is one near me called Kapow! Wrestling and I hope they're OK as I'll probably go at some point. Tl:dr people and situations are complex, do what you want. Quote

I sent Dann Read a cheque for £15 (it was different times) for a DVD (it was different times) of the first show he ever promoted. I never got a DVD, but he never cashed the cheque, and at one point he phoned me to apologise for the delay. Seemed a nice guy. Quote

I remember that Lord White lad coming out with a whole bunch of stuff about the owner being a giant scam artist and treating wrestlers real bad as soon as money got involved. Quote

That's the closest I can think of that would qualify, unless he's done something awful I don't know about (insert something about the frog chorus here.) And that's all I have to say on this matter. The answer is nobody I reckon. Because it's wrestling. I have no qualms slagging off WWE because they are such a bunch of open cunts about it. AEW, TNA, ROH, NJPW, you name them, some shit behaviour, business practices, blind turning on their choice of hires. But WWE are the ones doing the premier sports washing (yeah, but aren't all countries historically bad eh, eh!?) and their shy, retiring head of the company working with an administration of gangsters. If people want to watch WWE it's absolutely grand if you enjoy the product or you can't sever the attachment, but (and I don't think there are many here) don't blindly ignore that. I probably watch the vault or older stuff more than any modern product and that was prime era for drug addicts, abusers, conmen and charlatans headed by a genuinely evil, sexually depraved billionaire supervillain. I agree with @SuperBaconin the point made about being 'associated' as a fan with what goes on there if you partake. It's not, and your not complicit at all. But nobody should be ever trying to defend it. Which I don't really see here at all and is why it's the only forum I'll actually post on, because even for a place with too many topics about taking a poo, it's genuinely quite a level headed wrestling forum. NeverYield Posted January 31 Posted January 31 If you want to not watch a wrestling company you might as well not watch anything Hollywood produce, or never watch top level sport, and also bin off loads of other entertainment platforms. As long as you conduct yourself properly, talk to other people with respect, and like Super says you're family and close friends know who you are and what you're about then you're alright by my book. You can't defend scummy behaviour whatsoever and when people like Ian Watkins 'get their's' and there is one less cretin wandering about its bloody brilliant, but Dave from Sunderland sitting down to watch the Royal Rumble with a takeaway and a few beers in the comfort of his own home, does that make him a bad person, come on, not at all, and unless he has told everyone he is never going to watch WWE again then it isn't really a problem, he hasn't sold anyone down the garden path. A lot of this stuff I've only ever seen brought up in online spaces as well, I've never really seen or heard any of it debated in real life, not to say that it doesn't because that would be a sweeping statement and of course total bullshit but I'm just saying I've never come across it personally.
