He did a bit in his last stand up on them, if I'm remembering the right show, and how to a generation he wasn't a comedian but a game show host.

"That's monkhouse! Quick, follow him; he's got prizes"

The documentary about his last stand up great. I loved him as a stand up as well, so I may be biased.

Not a quiz per se, but did have a general  knowledge round, but I always loved a bit of Krypton Factor. Very tense and the way they did the 'Queen-esque' screen for the final gk round was great.

Two particular Monkhouse memories:

1. When he did one of his comedy videos in the nineties he had a stripper come out halfway through one of his gags and sold it as his wife trying to upstage him ("She's 83! It's a full body suit she wears. The tits were flown in from Germany!").

2. When he appeared in the fantastic lost documentary Who Got Benny Hill's Millions?, he made the faux pas of calling Benny "a red-blooded homosexual... I mean heterosexual! What am I talking about?! Benny?!".

I bloody love that whole routine. Perfect stand up. "Ladies and gentlemen, I stand before the biggest purveyor of crap on the BBC!"

and my personal fave

"What's the difference between my lousy drummer" (gestures to the back) "and my chiropodist?

A chiropodist bucks up the feet..."

The bit where he gets Mike Yarwood on is really interesting as well. The whole show is really good. I think it's on YouTube? There's definitely at least one Monkhouse stand-up show on there.

I didn’t appreciate him at the time doing game shows. Thought his jokes were a bit too soft. And of course they would be, I’m a moron. But I appreciated him a lot more as I got older, and that documentary of his last performance is fantastic. And the love and respect he got with all his peers being there, literally to watch a master at work one last time, gives me goosebumps just thinking about it. Beautiful.

Impossible is a well underrated quiz show. I've been making sure to coincide my lunch break for a few weeks now to make sure I can watch it, and really enjoy it.

I'm applying.

They aren't making anymore unfortunately.

It finished in 2021, but I agree, it was a great quiz show.

So they're all repeats I'm watching?

They've been on about 5 times. Impossible is how I can tell what sort of day my mum is having. We watch every day and if she remembers that she has seen it before then she's having a good day.

I'm at my parents' house and they're currently watching Celebrity Puzzling, a quiz hosted by Jeremy Vine and with one of the teams being Carol Vorderman and The Actor Kevin Eldon. Channel 5 is so fucking odd.

To make things even odder, Puzzling actually started off a few years ago as a weekly show with civilian contestants, presented by Lucy Worsley as her answer to VCM's Only Connect. Then it was swiftly cancelled, and just as quickly brought back as a kind of Channel 5 version of House of Games.

I remember watching Puzzling with Lucy Worsley. I've got my TV set to Challenge, and there's a lot of episodes of Tenable and The Chase on there. I've got a lot of episodes of Only Connect, Mastermind, and University Challenge to catch up on.
