To go with the comic book movie discussion thread, anyone reading comic books, be it print or digital?

For me, I'm reading Skybound's Energon Universe books, IDW's TMNT books, Absolute Batman and The Long Halloween: The Last Halloween from DC. A few others alongside those such as Thundercats and Silverhawks, Fire & Ice, plus some older collections like Secret Wars II, Crisis on Infinite Earths, Camelot 3000, etc. All on the Kindle, gave up print back in 2023.

I started reading comics a few months ago, first with my daughter and now on my own to avoid doom scrolling. Bought some print ones but almost exclusively on iPad now.

Reading through a recent era of X-Men where all of the mutants in the world have moved to their own sovereign island nation. Reading most of the different comics around it so gone in deep.

I think we had a comic/graphic novel thread somewhere around here, threads get lost with the awful search function though.

The only two comics I'm currently buying are Snotgirl which recently started up after a long hiatus and Doll Parts which is a prequel to the ultra edgy hit Lovesick. Really enjoying both, very different vibes but neither are superheroes, it's been a while since I've read a good cape comic if you don't count Berserk.

Back on topic I’ve gotten back into regularly collecting comics, 4 series in particular, Thundercats and its spin offs (Apex one shot and Cheetara with another, Lost, starting next month), Creepshow (picked up the Valentines special this week to wrap up the Volume 3 run), Turtles of Grayskull (though that finishes its 4 issue run next week) and Power Rangers Prime (a refresh without the original 6 but set in a future Angel Grove)

I also get a few TPBs for birthdays/Christmases or on cheap deals on Amazon or in comic shops, latest ones being Volume 1 of the Skybound Transformers series, Volume 2 of TMNT Saturday Morning Adventures and Volume 1 of Power Rangers Unlimited Power which compiles the first 6 issues each of the Mighty Morphin and Power Rangers split series

I’m reading far too many other series to mention. I haven’t yet started any of the X-Men series that followed the Krakoa epic mentioned above. I’m enjoying Immortal Thor and the current Fantastic Four run. I had to cut back on how many series I was subscribed to as it was becoming an uncontrollable hobby. Only the essential stuff now.

This is how I ended up stopping collecting. I'm very much a completist and once it came to events and crossovers it just expanded things to a ridiculous degree for me. And then I wanted to carry on with more so it just became too much.

I had a look at the free previews for all three and Batman was the only one I could get into, which was backed up when I went into FP the other day and had a look in the more recent Superman and Wonder Woman. Just didn't seem to have as much working for it story-wise as Batman did.

Thanks to everyone for their responses so far, wasn't aware of the prior thread but would appreciate if this could stick around as the spiritual successor.

I'm reading a bunch of stuff right now.

Transformers and Void Rivals from the Energon Universe.

Ultimate Spiderman is pretty much the only Marvel that's doing the trick right now for me. 

However if I was going to recommend anything it would be all things Ghost Machine. Geiger, Redcoat, Rook, Hyde Street and Rocketfellers are all excellent and it's awesome being on the ground floor of a whole universe.

How are the current Transformers comics? Where are they set and who are the Autobots going up against. I've heard good things about both Void Rivals and Skybound.

I'm still working my way through the Hatchette collection. Will have to finish that before I move onto anything new.

I've really been enjoying Absolute Superman. I don't usually read a lot of DC stuff, but I love Superman. I'll be interested to see what happens when the inevitable crossover with the Prime DC Universe happens. I may give absolute Green Lantern a look as well. 

I read the first issue of Ultimate Wolverine as well. That's started VERY dark, but then everything is in the new Ultimate universe. Second one arrives on Wednesday.

All good - heavy cartoon influence as opposed to other sources. The writer basically knows the show and uses conventional characters he's aware of, but mixes it up with the Joe and Cobra characters having their own things going on in their own comics and Void Rivals. Void Rivals basically takes the space characters and Transformers has the regulars. Joe has just gone completely for it and included characters from the movie who can go all over the shop. It's a slow burn, but always interesting.

I don't really have any history with Transformers comic but I have heard that they're far better than they've ever been since they were signed up to Image, it's a surprising comic label to see them on but if it's working then why not.

I think Robert Kirkman has some sort of connection to someone working for Hasbro, so it's worked well.

Quite interesting that a fair few of us posting in here are into the toy-based comics, which were more of the newsagent stock than your typical American comics in the specialist stores. Not too surprising, but nonetheless good.

I think generally speaking most people that feel that way haven't actually read IDW's Transformers. The double whammy of Kirkman and Daniel Warren Johnson hot off literally my favourite comic of all time Do A Powerbomb got a HECK of lot more eyeballs on Transformers that had previously dismissed the property.

Re how good transformers is right now. I enjoy it a lot but it's certainly more basic story telling than MTMTE and Lost Light. DWJ is very influenced by G1 transformers cartoon and he's basically just given it a little twist. It's a lot of fun. The art isn't going to be to everyone's taste mind you. It starts from the point of the start of the G1 cartoon and reimagines the ark waking up on Earth onwards.

Void Rivals is more Transformers adjacent. It's set in the universe and crosses over but mainly focuses on two waring planets. You don't need to read both to follow each's story but they are both well worth checking out both.
