No one really got anything from beating Cena recently so not sure if anyone would really benefit.

The best rub anyone got off Cena in the last 5 years was when he went down in seconds after going face to face with forum favourite Dwayne at Mania 40. Really made "The Final Boss" look exactly that, before he in turn was ran off by bright young hopeful The Undertaker.

Cena's (absolutely not his) final match has been confirmed for a Saturday Night's Main Event this December.

Unreal Season 2 opens with them explaining why Seth Rollins was the perfect final opponent, which John Cena definitely campaigned for, honest.

I dunno, it fits in neatly with the WWE headcanon that their history's effectively completed, all the best guys have been and gone, and it's revenue maximisation from here on out.

That’s the first time I’ve seen this nickname and I’m a bit confused by it too. Have they explained it on TV at all, or is it just one of those things they call people with no particular explanation, like Seth Rollins being a revolutionary?

It was his heel schtick earlier in the year. I only saw one promo but he was giving it out about him being the last Real Champion. How that then becomes something the Company adopts after he's turned face and dropped the title, I dunno, but I guess it sounds good on a poster and helps make your lads working week in, week out look like chumps.

The logic behind it as a heel thing was that he intended to retire with the belt in December which in his mind would kill off the legacy of the title - he knew WWE would hold a tournament and crown a new champion shortly thereafter, but every champ that followed and (most importantly in his mind) every fan would have to live wot the fact they were phonies and that John Cena was the Last Real Champion.

I kinda liked it then. Now he's a) no longer a heel intending to do that or b) actually the champion it makes no sense they seem to have just accepted it and kept using it.

Yeah absolutely, when the plan was "I'm going home with the real belt so there" it made sense.

Now it's just stupid and makes the title seem even more meaningless.

I think it might be time to revive the old "because TNA" trope, and replace it with "because WWE" or maybe just "because HHH".

Definitely made sense as a heel. I was very surprised when they continued using it once they'd dropped the heel turn.

37 year old blue chipper Joe Henry definitely could do with the rub of beating the Last Real Champion. That would be a great way to kick off your Rookie year.

But seriously the best options are one of his biggest rivals one final time (but who have they got that hasn’t been used?) or a real youngster who they want to make the next big thing (reversal of Cena’s debut). Like a Bron, but they would need to build up the hows and whys and not just throw it randomly on.
