You can't claim that you were doing a Collision taping when you initially booked Suncorp Stadium. That stadium holds 52500 people, and some weeks Collision isn't watched by that many people on TBS. Tony is good at booking exciting matches, but there is no way you can match Suncorp Stadium to a Collision taping.

Briso was an an ambitious booking to begin with considering AEW hardly saturates the Aussie market. Pulling a bait and switch with its a PPV to its a Collision might just kill any chance of growth, which would be a shame because they have some great Aussies they could build around.

Everything about it is weird though. It was reported the reason for it in the first place was because they were approached by a promoter to do a show (similar to McManus and WCW or more recently Impact Wrestling) and they obviously decided on the location and venue. Perth and Melbourne are considered a better part of Australia to hold wrestling and even WWE only sold 2/3 of the stadium last year, and they are hot, while AEW is not widely know/seen in Australia. 
 

@wordsfromlee Obviously WWE has a higher demand, but tickets for EC in Perth started at $150 and went up to just over $3000 for ringside according to my mate out there, because he decided not to go despite living 30 minutes drive from the stadium. That could have been dynamic pricing as well, I don’t know.

I haven't seen AEW refer to it as a Collision taping. Its the EPGs that could still be changed this far out and the IWC trying to decipher TK's approach to things. AEW have coasted on the NBA coat-tails before. Swerve's first champion promo was kept for a Collision after an NBA play-off slate which ended up .21 / 621k. There was even a 3rd hour with Rampage tacked on. Not that the US broadcast matters much to Aussies since they are on ESPN+ over there. With the time difference it was very unlikely to have been a PPV since the majority of the PPV audience being North American would have been in their beds. Its just unfortunate it isn't being shown live on MAX or Fite for the rest of us.

Why's everyone saying the stadium holds 52.5k when Ed Sheeran had over 59k in there. Are we not looking that deeply into things? We should all know by now that with stadiums, arenas, and everything in between they could have had a decent set-up if they had sold 20-30k tickets. It;s not like it would have been Fightmare at Carrow Road if they had. They gave up 3 months before the show because that's easier than putting money into actual marketing or the effort of promoting the show properly on TV.

I think they just said Grand Slam would be airing in Collison's timeslot, in previous years they always did Grand Slam's on a Wednesday with Dynamite Grand Slam live and then the tapings for Rampage/Collision Grand Slam. With the Australian show, they always had Saturday 15th Feb booked and never marketed it as Dynamite/Collision Grand Slam. Back in August 2024 they signed a new TV deal with ESPN in Australia and they said "A significant highlight of ESPN’s expanded coverage is the forthcoming AEW Grand Slam: Australia." so I think it was always going to be a TV special.

Fingers crossed. I don’t actually think he’s a bad wrestler, I just don’t think he’s needed there at the moment, outside of RoH.

Yeah, I agree. Basing your act around saying things ‘that you shouldn’t’ gets tired quickly, and the depth his character once had has disappeared. I’m not sure if he’s coasting, or genuinely does believe this is good, but either way, a change is needed.
