AEW Full Gear 2024 Discussion

The Outrunners are a great act but aren't good enough in ring in comparison to the top acts or to the general standard AEW requires. AEW needs to book them to their strengths - fun skits, promos and short comedy matches.

And I agree @Chris B. Perry was turning into a good heel act before the Punk stuff/suspension and there are signs of something good there. His smug smile when he took the mask off when he returned, the Happy Birthday Kenny promo he did, and in ring if he toned it down to fit his heel character you've got a very decent mid-card heel character. The Scapegoat gimmick can work because it's classic deluded heel hypocrite bullshit stuff but he needs to reign back on the theatre kid/art school aspect - just be a little cunt. Leave the spooky mask and the Raven cosplay at home.

the cosplay Raven stuff just doesn't make sense. There were two ways to lean into him being the Young Bucks' pet project, and the fallout of the CM Punk fight - either he's an entitled and protected nepo baby who gets special treatment, or he's a gobby little shithouse who winds everybody up because he knows he can get away with it for as long as his mates are in charge. Both great ways to get heat.

Instead, he's booked as a genuine bad-ass, as a guy who doesn't flinch when Darby Allin threatens to set him on fire, and as enough of a psychopath to try and murder Darby with his bus. And then doing the Raven pose and "sacrificing" himself, and all that bollocks. Just be a horrible little prick, Jack, please.

For some reason the current generation of wrestlers love any chance to go "dark" and spooky. It's very strange.

Has anyone actually done a nepo baby gimmick? He’s missing out on a bit of a goldmine by not leaning into that, I reckon.

David Flair in WCW 1999. Because it was WCW in 1999 it was fucking shite, but the skeleton of the angle generally made sense with an obvious beginning and end.

I think that’s a fair place for your brain to go, though! I was thinking specifically of wrestlers - and while Shane McMahon does wrestle, I’m not sure you could call him a wrestler. I’m sure some would say the same about David Flair, but at least, that’s what he was supposed to be.

fuck me there needs to have been a ban on spooky goth shite years ago already. Cannot think of a shittier well still visited so frequently. Ban on ANIMAL IMAGERY, on SCRATCHY FONTS, WEIRD HATS, the fucking LOT OF IT. BAN. PRISON.

All the wrestlers into spooky goth stuff ask their partners "Did you get the subtext though?", knew about hidden track 66 on the CD before you did and think about breakfast, dinner and tea as a triptych. 

It's this generation's 'mean streak in recent weeks' which was Ruthless Agression code for using the steps and becoming worse at promos.
