After this week’s disastrous Dynamite, the only thing I care about is the Tag Title match.

If The Outrunner lose, we complain via Teletext.

Takeshita/Richochet has been added which is now EIGHT singles match which is going to feel a bit gruelling. 

Match quality wise I'm sure a lot of it will be excellent but I can't say I'm buzzing for any of this or care who wins any of the matches. Hangman/White or Ospreay/Fletcher could have done with a gimmick. MJF/Strong could do with a bin and get the fuck in it.

That 4-Way tag is going to be the absolute shits.

Part of me thinks maybe OC should get a shock fluke title win. That would be an interesting and unexpected twist in this story. Seeing how Mox and the Deathriders react to their evil takeover being derailed so quickly would be something original. On top of that it would shake things up and get rid of the dusty predictability over everything right now.

It's beginning to make me appreciate wwes move to 6 matches a ppv.

The fact the International Title match was casually added on like its Headcheese vs T and A, is criminal.

That's definitely how I feel. On paper, it's like one of those ROH shows that I'd dip into when I was younger and just enjoy the matches for what they were. Either they didn't have any storylines at all and were just talent showcases, or I just didn't watch regularly enough to know anything.

But AEW should be offering a greater depth and it's a shame they've not done a great job with a lot of the build ups. Even the main event is feeling a little cold simply because of the repetitive and uninspired build up. I genuinely thought the Mox stuff was turning into a really good idea and it'd be their massive angle they needed to propel everything forward but it's as if they had no real plan beyond him taking over.

It's a weak show crying out for something to happen. I know AEW normally delivers despite bad build, but coming off the last Dynamite I'm not optimistic at all.

Moxley vs. Cassidy should be good, but I don't see any way that OC wins it. He's there as the sympathetic babyface who doesn't quite get the job done, which is a role he's perfect for, but it's a "what next?" match. Him insisting on The Conglomeration not getting involved probably leads somewhere for them, but this feels like a match that's a means to an end to get to a post-match angle when someone else arrives to make the save and stop Moxley murdering Orange Cassidy. If it's Darby Allin, it feels like a let-down because he's already part of this story, and because he'll need rebuilding as a serious challenger - he's already lost to Moxley, and lost to Claudio on Dynamite. So maybe someone returning? Adam Copeland would feel a bit desperate, Samoa Joe would be cool, but it should be Eddie Kingston if he's good to go. Outside chance it's Kenny Omega, but I don't think we see him in AEW before the end of the year.

I don't have high hopes for Swerve Strickland vs. Bobby Lashley. Lashley was wrestling at a quarter-speed on Dynamite, and still very much working a WWE match - I was worried when Shelton Benjamin came in wrestling like a powerhouse bully that he'd be shown up and surplus to requirements in that role once Lashley arrived, but instead it's Lashley who's looking second-best. Booking-wise, neither man can afford a big loss, so I'm expecting some kind of fuckery here.

I struggle to care about much else. Ospreay vs. Fletcher, Ricochet vs. Takeshita, and Hangman vs. White will be good, but I'm not invested. Mariah May promo segments are change the channel stuff, but at least this one probably leads to the return of Toni Storm.

I doubt they'll have the Tag Titles change hands so soon, but they could do a lot worse than having The Outrunners win as a feelgood moment to restore some fan goodwill by getting behind a team that got over organically.

 

And, as ever, I just wish this company would remember that they have Trios Champions.

Agreed, a complete afterthought, I regularly forgot who even has them.

It's like the WWE Tag Titles on Raw, Balor and JD have held them for over 150 days and defended them once in that time.

Which, again, would be harder to do if the champions wore or carried the belts on TV. Just a mental decision.

It's a drum I bang a lot, but even before the BCC won them, the Trios belts were nothing, and that's bizarre. This is a company that loves factions and makeshift teams, and that excels in crazy spot-filled multi-man matches - the Trios belts should be at the centre of all of that, and they're a genuine point of distinction between them and WWE - WWE have never had Six-Man Tag belts, even WCW only had them for five minutes, I don't think TNA ever had them, so anyone who has only ever watched mainstream televised American wrestling has never seen a Trios Title anywhere outside of AEW. It should be as much a signature for them as the Cruiserweight Title was for WCW.

I think a lot of Jericho's stuff would be more palatable if the Learning Tree were Trios Champions rather than him being ROH Champion, and FTW Champion before that - their feud with the Conglomeration would make more sense and have more stakes if they were fighting for Trios gold, just as their feud with Samoa Joe, Hook and Shibata would have benefited from it. There are Trios forming, feuding, and disbanding, without once in that entire run even acknowledging that there are Trios Titles. 

The Bang Bang Gang lost them and then, outside of the Ladder match at All In, have never tried to get them back. The Patriarchy have expressed no interest in them since losing them. House Of Black don't give a shit about them any more. Billy Gunn & The Acclaimed haven't gone after them since losing them. If even former champions don't care about them, why should we?

 

On top of that, there are so many groups that have just never gone anywhere near them - the Don Callis Family, the Undisputed Kingdom, the current version of The Elite, none of them have, to the best of my knowledge, ever challenged for them. It would be so easy to do something with them.

Absolutely, but expectations are always low with WWE and the tag division so no surprise there.

AEW actually managed to make tag teams and the titles mean something at some points during its existence. You can easily make the same argument about there being too many titles but with the amount of people they have on the roster, it'd only take some solid consistent booking to make it worthwhile.

I mean, I think they probably murder Orange Cassidy, and I think there's a decent chance they murder the rest of the Conglomeration too. I'm expecting a heavy heat ending to this show, even if there is a return at the end.
