Huge fan of Warmaster, shame they dropped it so quickly. Had an Undead force, the definition of a Glass Cannon!

It's still being kept alive with a decent tournament scene! Like a few of the old specialist games (Blood Bowl, Necromunda and Warmaster... maybe others) when they removed things from the store Rick Priestley largely handed it over to a rules committee but still works with them on ideas and they've been working with the game and keeping it going. These days there's plenty of 3rd party sites who near enough recreate the sculpts. Obviously you're buying "Noble Elves" or the like but they're recognisably old swordmasters and so on. The rules aren't massively different the only real tweaks are that there's more armies available. From a historical perspective when most of the old guard left GW and set up their own company "Warlord Games", they've basically kept Warmaster alive with the games Hail Caesar (ancient battles through to medieval) and Black Powder (umm... the black powder era....) which are ultimately the same ruleset with a few tweaks.

I was counted in the official world top 100 players in second edition.

By that I mean I came 96th out of 100 in the international tournament.

I am mainly into the books/lore these days, but I have put together a 1000pt Marines army (Alpha Legion loyalists).

Thanks to Christmas I'm at 2000 points. Including a Lion El Johnson mini that I'm going to be using as an Alpharius proxy.

All put together. But until we move in January I don't want to start the actual painting.

I didn't realise we had a Warhammer thread around these parts. I have been on the periphery of the hobby for a while , I used to have a great Battle Games in Middle Earth collection that got lost in a shed fire and more recently dabbled in 40k with the first of the Hachette part work magazines which got sold during the latter days of the pandemic when I was out of work (along with all my wrestling memorabilia)  but strangely I still enjoy watching hobby content on Youtube, not even lore videos but Tabletop Minions and The Painting Phase despite not having done anything in a few years. I think when my son is a bit older and I have a bit more time (and disposable income) I am going to put together a couple thousand points of something and try and actually get a few games in.

Excellent! There are times when I do wish I could recapture that feeling of first getting into the hobby, learning about the 40K and Fantasy (as it was) lore. I've started work on a Stormcast army recently because RIDE THE LIGHTNING!!! I'm also looking to expand my Genestealer Cults army, despite a distinct lack of limousines!

Right time to start Stormcasts, they’ll get their usual new models/glow up when 4th edition comes next year. I’ve just started a Cities of Sigmar army for the new year, the vast sea of grey in front of me is very daunting at the moment!

Yeah, the newer stuff is nice, but I prefer the first run of the models, they look beefier, the others look okay I suppose.

It's a stunning figure, but I'm a very, very bad painter, and won't do it any justice.

Same here, that's why I went with the Ghost Army theme for my Space Marines army. Fairly easy, Grey Seer prime, all over coat of Hexwraith Flame, Coelia Greenshade in the recesses, drybrush Ulthuan Grey, your choice of colour around the eyes, boom, done.
