Infinity Land Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Outside of the current 3 in rotation for posters. I'd maybe only include Ruby Soho (thanks to her WWE run), Shida and Nyla Rose. For the booking style of AEW then the TBS title has been a clear net gain in giving the Women's division overall more focus. There has been some decent improvements of late, with the prospect of some more established talent to enter the mix post-Revolution. The problem is there still seems to be some self-inflicted wounds or an injury jinx hanging around. Riho got injured at BoTB. I'm assuming Statlander's injured as she hasn't wrestled since the mixed tag back in January and I think she's still made appearances with the Best Friends since then. Shida is in Japan which is fair enough considering the limited time she's had to go home since the pandemic. But wasn't Nyla Rose talking about a TBS title shot not that long ago that went nowhere? I'd be pissed if I was her that Tay Conti can just pop up out of nowhere for a PPV match. Leyla Hirsch's disappearance might be related to Statlander's absence, but that's little excuse for limited TV time for a while now. Ruby Soho has had chances and now seems completely off the boil. Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 2, 2022 Paid Members Posted March 2, 2022 Was Tony's "massive announcement" that they were going to Detroit, or does he have another massive announcement to make? Quote
Merzbow Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 The women's division was more fun when it was Kenny booking his Joshi girls. And yeah there's an announcement tonight. Quote

It's something else because it's being announced on Dynamite and Detroit has, I guess, already been announced? Also, apparently he is going to be making this announcement on TV himself, as opposed to the usual thing where they get the commentators to make the announcement. I honestly don't think that's fair - while his use of the word "announcement" for new signings annoys me, I think the vast majority of his announcements have delivered. The only exception I can think of was Christian (I'm not saying that there haven't been others) - and I get the impression he hyped that one in the way that he did because he genuinely likes Christian. I may end up eating my words after he makes the announcement tonight, but to date, I think he has a good track record with this. Quote
Infinity Land Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 (edited) If it's HBOMAX I think it really has to be a two pronged approach. Not only the news they're on a streaming service (possibly even watch Revolution this weekend), but the announcement of the first HBOMAX special. Which presumably would either be an international event or an inter-promotional event. Edited March 2, 2022 by Infinity Land Quote
DavidB6937 Posted March 2, 2022 Author Posted March 2, 2022 It has to be something business related. It wouldn't surprise me if he's buying ROH considering how big a fan he was back in the day. Wouldn't interest me that much though. I'd like to see more positive movements forward for AEW like what others have mentioned with HBOMAX etc. Quote

Apparently they'd be getting like $30m a year from HBO Max, and they'd pay around $50m for ROH, so it would make business sense (although, granted, I know nothing about business). Quote

I just kind of see it as cannibalising their audience a little bit if they keep it going as an active promotion. If they're struggling to fill some arenas because they keep hitting the same markets over and over. Do they really want to quadruple dip by promoting smaller theatres and halls in the same places? I also think the value of tape libraries are a bit overblown. Streaming services are chasing subscribers in the form of new content and nostalgia. It's not like there are millions of people that are going to binge watch old RoH in the same way people do The Office and Friends. Quote

Infinity Land Posted March 2, 2022 Posted March 2, 2022 Quote Tony Khan talking now about #AEW headed west for some shows. Says he believes more shows will be coming. A lot of the shows they've done since returning have been makeup dates. From TK's Revolution media call. Not sure if this would explain hitting some of the same buildings repeatedly since coming back to live events. In the same way that WWE has a hold of buildings because of a commitment to run them. I wonder if they had a lot of these buildings booked in but unannounced and had to play catch up with the 18 months off the road. Quote
