Frank) during the Apex show just gone! Frank Mir, back in the big leagues after all these years. He only speaks for maybe 5 seconds in this video, yet still somehow comes across as smug and unlikeable as ever. Youre lucky I dont have the gif skills you do, or there would be a 2026 Frank Mir, with added giant bloated head, being posted right now. Quote
jimufctna24 Posted August 10 Posted August 10 I'm neutral towards Frank Mir myself. I did find it interesting that Ian Freeman and Josh Barnett disliked Mir for the complete opposite reasons. Barnett felt Mir was over-friendly, acting as if he and Barnett were close friends when they barely knew one another, whereas Freeman loathed Mir because there was no pre-fight camaraderie between them before their fight in 2002. Mind you, Barnett comes across as a decent bloke all things considered, whereas Freeman in the early 2000s was apparently a bit of a wanker. So perhaps Mir just treated both as he found them. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted August 16 Paid Members Posted August 16 Bunch of fights were announced last night. Fight Night main event… Fight Night main event… Yeah. Now that’s out the way, UFC 333 is looking class… This is in Abu Dhabi as well so we’ll get the early start time. I absolutely love that main/co-main double header. In an era when we see so many underserved title shots, this is two legit ones and two fascinating fights for different reasons. Very rare you see a co-main as strong as Yan vs Merab 3 these days as well. Love this. Undercard doesn’t look amazing right now but there are a couple of standouts. Lone’er Kavanagh is getting no easy touches is he? Coming off that loss to Royval and they’re throwing him straight in with Temirov who’s coming off obliterating Steve Erceg in a round. Great fight but the matchmakers always seem determined to limit Kavanagh’s chances for some reason. Allen vs Pico is a cracking fight as well. That one could’ve easily headlined a Fight Night on its own. I was sure this was gonna be the card that would have Aspinall vs Gane 2. Obviously not. I wonder what’s going on there. Is Aspinall still not ready because of the eye issues? Is it something to do with the bad feeling between him and the UFC behind the scenes delaying it? Either way it’s not good. Last I heard he was back in full training and just waiting for a date. This card would’ve made sense. Same place as last year, Abu Dhabi, so would’ve been on at a Euro friendly time, which obviously would suit him and Gane being British and French. Fuck knows? Hopefully it gets done soon. Also saw the other day that UFC 331 next month looks like it’s on Box Office over here. There was a press conference for the show the other night and TNT were putting ‘Box Office’ in the caption to all their clips from it. Fucking cheek. I’d actually understand them putting 333 on there. UK start time, some UK/Euro fighters on the card etc. But 331? There aren’t any UK fighters on the card, it’s headlined by Van vs Pantoja 2 and Tsarukyan vs Ruffy, it’s in LA and it starts at 2am UK time. So they wanna charge PPV for that card, on top of the monthly subs, and then no doubt they’ll put Aspinall vs Gane 2 on PPV as well by the end of the year. Greedy pricks. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted September 5 Paid Members Posted September 5 (edited) We’ve reached the point in MMA’s decline where numbered events are having worse title fight main events than most Fight Night cards. I like Natalia Silva but this is absolutely hideous as a headliner for their so-called ‘top tier’ of events. They’ve stripped Valentina Shevchenko of her title because of her inactivity due to injuries. And this is what we’re left with. Half expecting them to do the same with Tom Aspinall now and do something horrid like Gane vs Hokit for the ‘undisputed’ belt. They can make all the money they want, the sport’s in the toilet. Rest of the card… Some alright stuff on there, interested to see Soldic’s debut etc. But man, this is a numbered card? Also worth bearing in mind that this is in Salt Lake City at high altitude so even the fights that look half decent have a higher chance of being shite than normal due to exhaustion. Especially when a bunch of these fights have been thrown together last minute. Shambles. Edited September 5 by wandshogun09 Quote
Dai Posted September 5 Posted September 5 That is an atrocious Fight Night main event, let alone numbered. I know we live in the age of numbered events meaning Jack shit as people dont have to pay for them any more, so its actually the live event fans I feel sorry for. I just checked and the arena holds around 18,000. I assume its already nearly sold out, as the UFC is the draw and not the fighters, so it probably sold all the tickets when there were no fights announced, but imagine 18,000 paying hard earned money for that shite of a card? By being so gready they will surely lose a huge amount of repeat business by burning them so badly on this shit show. They earn so much cash from the TV deal I bet they dont even care and hope they can do most of their shows in the Apex inn the future, to save even more cash.Think about it for a second though, 18,000 fans watching that 5 round fight. Insanity. Speaking of insanity, bloody Dos Anjos is on the prelims! Thought he retired years ago. Quote

Paid Members Egg Shen Posted September 6 Author Paid Members Posted September 6 I don't hate the card, I think they've stuck a title on that main event in desperation cause they couldn't land another title fight to headline. I don't know if its a contract thing where they need to have so many numbered events per year, but i'd have been perfectly happy with them changing this to a "Fight Night" with Figgy/Talbot headlining. You'd avoid the backlash at least. Quote

That’s the problem itself though. This is proof that they don’t have the roster anymore to sustain the 40-odd events a year or whatever it is these days. Already seeing a load of people calling for Tom Aspinall to be stripped now, and some calling for Kayla Harrison to be stripped. In a way I get it, if they’ve taken the belt off Shevchenko while she’s out injured, when she hasn’t even been out a full year yet, there should be consistency when it comes to other inactive champions. I get that argument. But is this what people really want? Three champs stripped, vacant titles all over the shop, creating vacant title fights left and right where the winner never truly feels like the legit champ because they never beat the champ. I get that it’s always a shit situation and sometimes it’s necessary but shite like this is what adds to the overall apathy towards the UFC these days. Almost nothing means anything anymore. 2 hours ago, Egg Shen said: I don't know if its a contract thing where they need to have so many numbered events per year, but i'd have been perfectly happy with them changing this to a "Fight Night" with Figgy/Talbot headlining. And if they have to have a specific amount of numbered events for the year, they could’ve changed a Fight Night to a numbered event to make up for losing one here. Like, would anyone have had a problem with last night’s Paris card being changed to a numbered event, with Aspinall vs Gane 2 headlining and Parnasse vs Hooker as co-main? Aspinall was back training a while ago and said he was just waiting on a fight date. Then again, Hearn’s said this week that Aspinall’s still gotta have more tests before he’s cleared medically or something. That type of thing though. Or, it’s not ideal, but maybe try taking the Yan vs Merab 3 co-main off 333 and bring it forward a few weeks and have that headline 332? It weakens 333 but Volk vs Evloev can just about carry that card and they’re really not in a position at the moment to be having two title fights on one card without spreading their main event level fights too thin. Paid Members Egg Shen Posted September 6 Author Paid Members Posted September 6 Yeah, you gotta think that original 332 plans fell through. I just don't see why a title fight needs to headline a numbered event, as long as it's a big fight which people want to see, I don't see what difference it makes. Quote
Zebra Kid Mark Posted September 7 Posted September 7 Crazy irony is Valentina has had 14 title fights in her career and never main evented a numbered event (only the odd fight night). She’s stripped and the vacant title fight is the main event. Quote

Mo exaggeration to say that Shev is 10 times better known that these two as well, which shows you how pitiful this main event event. Quote
Kfogg1991 Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Apparently valentina didn't even accept a fight or agreed to be on the card it was just the heavy rumours of the speculative main event for it. Jesus christ though what a weak one we've had fight night cards better than that ppv is Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted yesterday at 12:21 PM Paid Members Posted yesterday at 12:21 PM Mike Heck from MMA Fighting has tweeted that Arnold Allen is out of the Aaron Pico fight at UFC 333 next month. Nothing’s been confirmed yet but Losene Keita was teasing the other day that he’s stepping in on short notice to fight a Top 15 opponent. All adds up. I’d fucking love to see Pico vs Keita. Arguably a better fight than the Allen one, or at least just as good. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted 20 hours ago Author Paid Members Posted 20 hours ago Yeah, sign me up for that. Keita coming in with confidence will make it pretty special. Quote
