Luke Thomas was saying the other day that he spoke to Mike Bohn (USA Today/MMA Junkie) about this McGregor fight and how it’s gonna work with McGregor’s contract now there’s no PPV. Apparently Bohn said that from what he knows, McGregor agreed to this Holloway fight but part of the agreement was that his next fight (which would be the last on his contract) has to happen by the end of the year and he hasn’t signed a new deal.

It’s been obvious for a while that he wants out. Been saying it for ages and it’s the only thing that made sense why the UFC were hesitant to book him at times. I think they’ve known for a while that he wants to leave and they were stalling to keep him on the books as a bargaining chip when negotiating the Paramount deal, and probably hoping he’d extend his contract as well. But yeah, looks like the little deviant is gonna be out of the UFC by 2027. Expect McGregor vs Diaz 3 or some bullshit on Netflix next year. The UFC are probably gonna feed him to Makhachev or something for his last fight on the way out 🤣

I assume his lawyers have negotiated a massive flat fee to make up for the lack of PPV points.

Despite being years past his best, and years without fighting, if this report is accurate then 2027 (and even 2028 unfortunately) will be the year of McGregor again in MMA, and even boxing presumably. He will do monster business on Netflix, and even something like a Mayweather rematch would surely be on the table too.

Tsarukyan’s non-stop wrestling journey continues in July. Hopefully he absolutely rags this cunt all over the mats…

Also, on the same card, this is mad. Ben Askren is back…

Genuinely thought this was a joke until I saw that RAF’s official Twitter account were the ones who posted it. Can’t see it going well for Askren but considering he was in a coma at death’s door this time last year and had to have a lung transplant to save his life, just the fact he’s got back to this point is a huge success story. He’s saying it’s a one-off as well, he’s got no plans to do any more matches after this one.

I saw this last night and thought bloody hell fair play. That picture of him towards the end of last year was horrific.

Whatever the outcome, I can't knock him going from being that depleted to match ready.

Ian Garry gets the fight he was looking for and Mackenzie Dern gets her first title defence:

Makhachev vs. Garry should be an interesting fight and probably the right fight to make a Welterweight. Then you have either Carlos Prates or Michael Morales waiting for the winner.

This one’s been rumoured for a while but finally got confirmed last night. Main event for the Oklahoma City card in July.

This will be bad news for Usman, surely? Going up in weight to fight an elite Middleweight is not good for him at all.

Just checked Usmans record. Don't the Edwards fights seem a lifetime ago? Usman has only had two fights since those. Can't get my head around that. Also can't get my head around the fact that the Leon headkick to Usman will be less than four years ago when he steps into the cage with DDP. Feels like so much has happened since that, and they are both washed up now.

Yeah I think a lot of that is because Leon’s gone from champion to plummeting all the way down into a three fight losing skid in that time. Makes it feel so much longer than it’s been in reality. Even Usman’s win over Buckley last year feels like it was about three years ago now.

I wrote Marty off completely before the Buckley fight so I wont do the same thing again.

Couple of decent Fight Night main events got announced this week.

Mateusz Gamrot vs Quillan Salkilld is the Apex main event on Aug 8th. Big step up for Salkilld that. Gamrot’s not UFC champion material, I don’t think, but he’s basically a high level gatekeeper at 155. And we haven’t seen Salkilld have to deal with the kind of grappling attack Gamrot usually comes with yet so it’s an interesting one. Too good a fight for the Apex but whatever.

And Umar Nurmagomedov vs Song Yadong headlines in Shanghai on August 29th. Solid fight but I reckon Song’s about to hit his ceiling again. Beating a washed up Figgy hasn’t really convinced me he’s over the hurdle. Umar’s kind of just in a holding position at the minute. He’s ranked #2 behind Merab and obviously Yan’s the champ. It’s looking like we’re getting Yan vs Merab 3 next so Umar’s in a spot where he’s either gonna have to sit and wait, which isn’t generally a good idea, or take a fight to keep him ticking over. You’ve got O’Malley lurking as well and really I guess the fight should’ve been Umar vs O’Malley to solidify the next challenger for the winner of Yan/Merab 3. But here we are. Not a bad fight and it’ll be on nice and early for us with it being in China.

The Abu Dhabi card is next week and no sooner had the UFC put this poster out…

IMG-2282.jpg

Marcel Dorff was posting that the fight was off, Rountree is out and now Bogdan Guskov is stepping in…

IMG-2283.jpg

Not ideal but on a week and a half’s notice, what you gonna do? They had to break up the upcoming Guskov vs Blachowicz rematch for this as well. Apparently offered the Ankalaev fight to both Blachowicz and Paulo Costa but Guskov’s ended up in there. Right fuck about but hopefully this stays intact now.
