Chili Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 (edited) That Koko B. Ware's macaw Frankie died in a house fire in 2002. I genuinely had no idea and was watching an interview with Koko when it came up. Not the most cheery post, but Christ I felt proper sad hearing Koko tell the story. I won't go into more details, but don't look up the story, it made me go and hug my dogs. Didn't know Frankie was the same bird and that Koko actually owned him and figured it was supplied to him when he was on the road or something. Poor lad. Always liked Koko B. Ware. Really good worker and was always over for his spot on the card, loved the Birdman gimmick. He's unfairly maligned by idiots for being in the Hall of Fame which is bollocks anyway but for what his job on the card was, he was probably one of the best at. Post script: Found out that many years later, he got himself a new Frankie and now I feel better. I swear having animals around now on the regular has turned me into mush. Chili Posted March 14, 2025 Posted March 14, 2025 He was just really good at getting himself over. Being that size he wasn't going to get further up the card, but that didn't matter. To me, Koko B. Ware was a brilliant example that wrestling is ensemble theatre and you have guys who just aren't going to be world champs on the national stage, but that's not the point. Here he is on a 1987 WWF Superstars match and it's worth it just to see how fucking over the lad actually was. That era is pretty golden. Proper hard nut too. Quote

Wasn't the Memphis stuff on the Wrestling Channel some of the highest rated programming on there? I certainly watched it for the hokey stories with the likes of Corey and Koko and Grady Watson and Nate the Rat. Quote

It was one of only two programes on there that I watched regularly (the other being TNA Impact). I found it fascinating as was a show that was stuck in some time warp from 20 years ago, still trying to promote territorial wrestling with their non-telivised big cards at the Mid South Collosium. They even got Hogan in for a match at a show at the new NBA arena in Memphis (was meant to wrestle Lawler but ended up wrestling Big Show if I recall correctly). Edited March 16, 2025 by bbabba Quote
