Nagabuchi Tsuyoshi - Ippiki No Samurai (Lone Samurai)

Inventor of and Japan's leading purveyor of "yakuza music". Basically country rock with lots of macho lyrics about "the life", i.e. violence, revenge, bravery, etc.

It's frequently joked that most Japanese women hate Nagabuchi, because they've all had an ex at some point that was a massive fan of his. (I'm guessing my exes are no different.)

Lowering the mood a little with ultra depressive Russian post-punk(?), Roman Sidorov had a few equally despairing projects that went seemingly unheard until his suicide in 2003.

No love for Jacques Brel? He did some great stuff, a fair bit of which was adapted into English. I'm particularly keen on Le Moribund, which was translated into Seasons In The Sun, and lost all sense of the original's tone and meaning

Ah, well then - in the same spirit:

Chuck Love ft. Estaire Godinez - Bailando

Half that song's in French, though, so it wouldn't matter. But Latin's not 100% dead anyway. And yes - fuggin' classic.
