David
So I figured ol' Poundshop Tony Montana has finally reached that rare airspace in the sport that sees him worthy of his very own thread on the UKFF. First off, who's next for him? Who do you want to see him face, and who do you think he'll face? For me, i'd like to see him face Leon Edwards next. It looks like we're getting Usman vs Burns, and I wouldn't mind seeing Covington face Woodley next for his return from a loss. which leaves Edwards and Masvidal to settle their ridiculous backstage "beef" in the cage. A win for Edwards puts him back in the spotlight, and a win for Masvidal throws him back into the mix. Unfortunately, I think he'dĀ knock the Edwards fight back. He clearly buys into his star power, which is ironic, because he's a guy who always used to say that he didn't buy into all that shite, and he was critical of fighters who carefully chose their opponents and tried to avoid certain "unfashionable" fighters. I guess that's easy to do when you're one of the unfashionable fighters, but now that he's the Cuban McGregor he's changed his tune. I think he'll end up facing McG or Nate again. At welterweight he's far too big and powerful for Diaz. McG would be an interesting fight if only to see two top level strikers duke it out. I agree with this, but I don't think they'll do it (nor will Masvidal as you point out), because Edwards is definitely in the "who? why?" category these days. I feel like their backstage beef was ages ago and unfortunately for Edwards he's vanished within the UFC world while Masvidal has been given the spotlight. Nate Diaz/Karo Parisyan feels like more of a relevant beef than Edwards/Masvidal.
Kfogg1991
I think personally the rise of jorge has been fantastic to watch, it feels like the birth of a new Conor like superstar and i can't say enough how much that excites me in the sport i love so much.Ā Ā I think next it should be either Nate or the Conor fight Dana knows that is the mega bucks fight right now and i believe he will offer a truckload of cash to both men to make it happen. I don't think the Edwards fight would benefit masvidal right now, it's way more beneficial for EdwardsĀ

Leaves the question of what to do with a guy in Edwards who's on an eight-fight streak and who's last loss was to Usman nearly five years ago. Edwards is ranked 3rd in the division, with only Covington and Burns above him. Outside of Masvidal I don't know what else there is for him? Woodley is on a slide and doesn't deserve someone on the up, and Covington is probably going to knock back Edwards for the same reasons Masvidal would. 6 minutes ago, Kfogg1991 said: I don't think the Edwards fight would benefit masvidal right now, it's way more beneficial for Edwards If Masvidal is being serious in actually wanting another title shot he'll have to go through a top contender at some point. That means Covington, Burns or Edwards.Ā
Gooner
It depends on if he wants to attempt to be the best or just wants to boost his bank balance/taking easier fights. If it's to fight the best and try to get another shot at the belt, you go through Edwards and another top contender, if it's for the cash/easier fighters to face, you go down the Diaz and McGregor route.Ā

It's been a good five years since he moved up.

I could be wrong though, there was a lot going on back then with fights being cancelled and re-arranged.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 22, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted July 22, 2020 Yeah Iām fairly sure thatās what it was Dave. That andĀ Woodley still wanted to fight and because Burns is always up for jumping in and had been going back and forth with Woodley anyway on Twitter,Ā it was the obvious choice.Ā
jimufctna24
Depends if the UFCĀ match Conor with the winner of Khabib/Gaethje. If not, thenĀ Masvidal will probably fight McGregorĀ next.Ā If so, then we will probably get Diaz vs Masvidal 2 -Ā a fight I would have very little interest in.Ā Ā

David
I see Tony was interviewed on politics and current affairs. Not usually a good idea really. Some of his nuggets of info: On Trump: Quote "The lowest unemployment for Latin and Black people, that gives us dignity. That gives my community dignity. People are working and making more money. The pay gaps that have happened in the middle class are nice, are good. Itās numbers, itās facts. Heās actually helping out my people. And Iām supposed to not give credit for that?" Laying it out for transgenders and minorities: Quote "Itās just crazy that society now is telling you if youāre a Biden fan, well then youāre Antifa or youāre something crazy, and if youāre Trump, you hate transgenders, you hate everything. Basically if youāre a Trump fan, you hate everything. And itās crazy what society is coming out to.ā On illegal immigration: Quote "I think illegal immigrants should be treated with respect and dignity, but there has to be rules. It is a country of laws. My mom had to get permission to come here. My dad eventually got permission from the government when he touched ground here. Everybody has to follow laws. So in that regard, I think some things should change, but Iām not a politician. I canāt say what has to change. But every man, woman and child should be treated with dignity when they come to this country. Be told, āHey, you canāt get in here, you got in illegally,ā or whatever it is that happens. But during that process there should be a lot of dignity, because every human deserves that whether they come from Haiti, they come from Mexico, so if thereās problems in that regard, yeah, they need to change overnight.ā On socialism and capitalism: Quote "Bernie Sanders is a socialist. I mean, at least from what I hear, thatās like straight-up socialism. And thatās not what this country is. Everybody that left their country and came here to be part of this thing, came here for what? Capitalism. So I always listen to my elders. I get as much info from them. And what I hear from people that actually lived it ā because itās one thing to hear about it, read about it, see it on YouTube ā my father actually lived it. My uncles and aunts actually lived it. This is something Iāve been hearing since about the age of 7 years old: in one way or another, being politically charged to stand up against communism at all costs. And I say that a hundred percent in my heart: Give me death, or give me freedom. And if you donāt believe it like me, then youāre the problem with society. Thatās the honest truth. If you donāt want freedom, and you want to take other peopleās freedom away, youāre whatās wrong with society.ā On police brutality: Quote "Do I agree that there needs to be a policing of the policing? Hell yeah. And I feel that cops needs to be held accountable for their actions. If somebodyās running away, and he poses no threat, no matter what the color of that person is, you canāt take their life away. What are we talking about? How you gonna take this manās life away that was running away. I agree thereās a huge problem there, but Trump didnāt do that. This is happening in democrat cities with democrat governors. How is that Trumpās fault? Heās the one that pulled the trigger? Thatās what Iām saying. Thatās what they did in Cuba, as well, to divide the people. Theyāre trying to blame it all on race when this is a problem that can be addressed, that can be fixed.ā On using Twitter hashtags to promote QAnon, a far-right conspiracy website: Quote āDo I agree with everything thatās on this website? No. And why I did that was just to spark talk. Iām not saying trust these people or nothing. Iām just saying go and do the research. Just like I do on a daily basis when my dayās done, and I want to see where is this world headed to, I dig on my own. Iāll read a book, talk to friends, Iāll research online. I just donāt take your word for it. Your word is not the one-all-come-all. Your word, and that goes for everybodyās word. Iām gonna go out there and research this stuff, and some things Iāve seen on there are crazy as hell, and some things Iāve see on there are just to provoke thought." On being skeptical about COVID-19: Quote āNot everything you can believe in the media. Right before coronavirus officially hit, I was on the way to Australia. I got on the (World Health Organization website) to check whatās going on. This organization is getting, literally, billions of dollars, and at this time, this is like a week before they declared it a pandemic, they were saying it wasnāt a pandemic. It was safe to travel, and it was even safe to travel to Australia. Shortly when I got back, there were thousands of cases of corona in Australia. So how you gonna tell me to believe anything blind? Iām gonna just constantly be diligent, just like I am about fighting. I treat the news that Iām gonna inhale, as well, Iām gonna be diligent about it. Why am I gonna be lazy with my own future? I went to the WHO, I went to numerous other places, and they said, āNo, this is not a pandemic. Itās OK to travel to these places.ā Literally a week later when I got back, the whole world shut down. They were saying all this other crazy stuff about a mask doesnāt do anything, then a mask does do (something). Now all of a sudden weāre supposed to believe that coronaās killing everybody in Florida. Thatās a lie. The death rates are dropping. ā(American Top Team coach) Mike Brown had gone through a series of tests to get up to that point (of testing positive before UFC 251). He didnāt see nobody else different other than his girlfriend thatās a nurse that gets tested regularly that was negative the whole time, saw my group, and my group has been quarantined. I just did about seven tests just to be able to land on the island in (Abu Dhabi), and then like two more tests to get to the actual fight. Mike Brown gave one negative and one positive. Maybe these tests are not as accurate as we think, is another thing. ā¦ If you want to just believe everything, thatās on you. But Iām not that person.ā Ā Edited July 22, 2020 by David
