Paid Members Accident Prone Posted November 29, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 29, 2016 I'm a big fan of 30's style cartoons, which usually feature an obvious or hidden message. Two of my all time favs are: Small Fry: https://youtu.be/VXrCMDoQbtQ  and Play Safe: https://youtu.be/AUrOCEt3Olo  both of which were on a crackers 80's cartoon classic VHS.  Oh my giddy aunt, these are a fantastic blast from the past! I had a few of those 3 hour cartoon mega tapes as a wee lad, and these two shorts were pretty much on every one. The animation in 'Play Safe' is exceptional stuff.  Also, whoever mentioned Gogs has triggered my childhood fascination of video taping all my fave shows and keeping an organised catalog of them. Gogs, Simpsons, Muppets Tonight, Friends, early South Park and other random shit were etched into 6 hour VHS marathons that I started to build when I learnt how to program the scheduling feature on our VCR.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted November 29, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 29, 2016 I clearly remember watching The Fruities and it being interrupted by the news of princess Diana's accident  Rude Dog and The Dweebs anyone? No thanks.
Guest
Some of the names being thrown around here as obscure and forgotten are beginning to depress me.
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted November 29, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 29, 2016 Samurai Pizza Cats. Nobody (apart from Surf) seems to remember this show but it was ace, properly mental stuff. None of the episodes made any sense as I believe there was no English translation for any of the scripts when it came over so they just re-scripted everything based roughly on what was going on in the visuals. After this post I watched an episode on YouTube this morning and I still think it's a missed cult classic. I suspect half of it wasn't even scripted.  Out of curiosity I looked up the original Japanese theme tune. Such a weird feeling. It's like learning that the person you thought was your Dad is actually your own stepson.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFv2z4qR9eY
Really Big Shoe
The Raccoons is kinda obscure as is Orsons Farm. I vaguely recall one about a mouse don't think it was Mighty Mouse which was like a superhero. Was on channel 4 before or after Mr Rossi
Paid Members Surf Digby Posted November 30, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2016 Wasn't The Raccoons one of the most popular cartoons of the 90s?
Ian 86
I think we're redefining 'obscure' as 'old'. Â No way was the Raccoons obscure.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted November 30, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 30, 2016 Yeah. I've heard of most of the shit in this thread, yet have no fucking idea what Billy d, Devon et al are talking about in the telly thread.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted November 30, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2016 I was wondering the other day if you're always still in a bad mood in the morning and I guess this gives me my answer!
Ian 86
I'm assuming that's aimed at Chest, but for the avoidance of doubt.... yes I'm always in a bad mood in the morning! Today is particularly foul.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted November 30, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2016 It was aimed at Rockers, a renowned morning grump from back in the day to the amusement of most of the board before he perked up in the afternoon after a cream cheese bagel and cup of Lipton. Paid Members Scott Malbranque Posted November 30, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2016 I'm like that until I have a tin of cheap tuna and some peanut butter at Breakfast 3 (Elevensies), D-Mal.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted November 30, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2016 I'm normally alright in the morning, it's just after tea time I get angry, probably because of washing up and tidying. I'm ok once I've settled down with a bag of Quavers and some footy or a film.
Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted November 30, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted November 30, 2016 If I haven't had at least two coffees on a work day, don't even talk to me  Also... The Raccoons?! Fucking hell, what's next, the Jetsons? It's more obscure than the Flintstones, so why not? And there's no such cartoon as Orson's Farm, it's a segment of Garfield and Friends, as far as I know. I need a coffee.
Moderators PowerButchi Posted November 30, 2016 Moderators Share Posted November 30, 2016 The Raccoons as "obscure" is insane. What cartoons were on Channel 5 in 97? They've have to be obscure.
