Getting Your Hair Done

Whats everybody's preference on their barnets ? Do you go barbers/hair dressers or do it yourself at home?

Normally Mrs.E does mine at home with the clippers, and opts to make me look like an idiot with the whole "shaved sides, long on top" look, although i prefer is short, [number 2 all over]. Anybody hit up the hairdressers? I had a friend that would spend £40 in Toni & Guy, for essentially a short back and sides. Something that'd cost me £7 in a barbers.

I go to the Barbers in Donaghmede coz he knows me since I’m 10, and that I’m a vain prick and he will style my hair accordingly for just 10bob.

I took a break from that particular Barber throughout 1998 and early 1999 when I was paying £80.00 a month to get the “Beckham” from Peter Marks in Grafton Street Dublin.

Used to cut it myself when I was going through my shaved head phase, but no, I only trust Glen the barber in Donaghmede Shopping Centre in Dublin these days

I've let mine grow shoulder length for nearly two years now, taking pride in keeping it thick and clean looking. Once it starts growing anything over a few inches though I've noticed for the past few years the hair on the front sides becomes very tender and prone to falling out. Henceforth it's now reached that dreaded 'breaking point' where I have grand looking long hair but if the wind blasts it back you can see that there's practically nothing on the front sides. It's weird.

It annoyed me for ages but then I started noticing how many Matt Hardys there are in the world who just shave into that shit and now I'm under the impression it's a regular thing for a lot of dudes.

I'm in coin toss mode as to if I should get it cut this Saturday or not. It's all or nothing for me. I hate really short hair because I look like Kryten but I have the sort of do that needs to be fully reset.

Unless you're rocking a shaved head, one or two, who on earth does it themselves? I have horrific memories of Gran making me look like a third member of the Gallagher brothers in primary school.

I have Jewish hair (cheers Grandpa), so I basically have to have short/back/sides or I start looking like Wiltshire's answer to Steve Brule. I go to a barber shop because I'm not a complete mentalist.

I'm going that way, I had hair longer than you've ever seen before that but as soon as I shaved it all off I was wondering why I didn't do it earlier. Plus it gives me an excuse to pull out the boots and braces.

Checking out some videos on that headblade, that looks stupidly simple and quick.

I used to do it myself on a number one all over until I realised about 5 years later that it really didn't suit me. I now go to a barbers round the corner and pay the princely sum of £6.50 for him to make me look less like an unfashionable dickhead. I like going to the barbers though, especially because we get on really well, we just chat shit for the 30 minutes or so I'm in the chair and it gets me out of the house.

On the subject of paying a fortune for the same cut in an expensive barbers as opposed to a cheap, local barbers there's a place in Sheffield called Savilles which specialises in traditional, old school styles. You're looking at £20+ for essentially the same haircut as my man Scott does. Also, I've never been in Savilles and the entire experience of waiting and being in the chair take less than 2 hours. Not sure if they drag the process out to warrant the extra money or what but I can do without the scalp massage and snazzy shampoo. Cut the fucker, whack some pomade on it and give me change from a tenner.

I do it myself 9 times in 10. Largest guard all over, then square up the neck and sides with a small detailer to blend it in.

If I do go to the barber its a local one on my street who does exactly the same for £8 and saves me the time and hassle.

I'd be interested in knowing how you do this neatly at the back, presuming you haven't converted the spare room into a hall of mirrors.

Sometimes when I'm desperate, my wife will tidy it up, but yeah, had the same barbers for about 3 years now. They give me all the coffee I want (beer if you drink), have 3pm streams from Canal+ on their TVs. It cost £16 but I always tip so £18, and always do it well...

Since working in central London, fuck me it's been eye opening. Some barbers charge £35!!!
