Mr.E
Cheers Edgar, I'll add those onto the ever expanding list. Â I was going to ask, has anybody listened to Tom Jones "Praise and Blame" ? Whilst I'm not remotely religious or anything, I also liked that style of early rock and roll gospel stuff if anybody know anything about that style of music? Sphinx
Yeah, Praise and Blame is pretty good. His voice is really suited to it and it's got a nice stripped down sound. I saw him live as he was part of the festival I was at and he did this stuff rather than his cheesy shite, thank fuck. Having said that, he was the first act of the festival - on at midnight - and everyone was pissed and shouting for Sex Bomb.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted February 26, 2016 Paid Members Share Posted February 26, 2016 I was told Praise and Blame is actually quite surprising for a Tom Jones work, because of its style and production - it's much less polished and "mainstream" than his usual stuff. Seems to have garnered mixed reviews.
Mr.E
Yeah, it has a smaller feel to it, that say a bigger act might have, but it works well in the context of the music which is all classic rock an roll gospel stuff, which he is very suited too, and likes singing as well. Â I'd highly recommend it.
TheHighlightReel
Cheers Ralphy! enjoyed those a lot earlier on! Â Can anybody think of any "southern US" rock bands that aren't all 'MURICA? I've had Lynyrd Skynyrd on this morning, and some it was ok, but many newer songs about hunting/guns and the such like hah. Â Currently working through best of Bad Company Check out The Weeks who very much have that Southern US country / blues vibe but are a bit more contemporary. cobra_gordo
One worth adding to the southern bands is Clutch. From Beale Street To Oblivion is a belting album. Robot Hive Exodus has a few crackers on it too, like this one- https://www.youtube.com/embed/XpvDZu-GFSY
Mr.E
Cheers Highlight and Cobra, both those bands added to the list
WyattSheepMask
Blackberry Smoke are another one. I saw them play Download Festival last year. I'd staked out a spot for KISS at the end of the day so had to make do with seeing them. Very much in the vein of Skynyrd, but not as "AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!"-y

FUCK YEAH!"-y Awesome, added to the list.  With Skynard, I stuck on a greatist hits, which like Freebird and a bunch of other songs. I did think it was a bit much when a song came on on, that has the lyrics:  My hair's turning white, my neck's always been red, my collar's still blue, we've always been here just trying to sing the truth to you. Yes you could say we've always been, Red, White, and Blue   ....This only happens in america, and I have no idea why. It made me dislike them a little bit to be honest. Sphinx
As his hair is 'turning' white, you couldn't say he's 'always' been red, white and blue in that sense...so....you know...sort it out, Skynyrd.

There are fans who still prefer their older stoner type stuff but from Blast Tyrant on they've been awesome, id hop there and work onwards.
