Paid Members Thunderplex Posted May 4, 2013 Paid Members Share Posted May 4, 2013 Yup, watched most of them on a little black and white portable with an earphone in so the parents wouldn't know! Â Nearly forgot Timecrimes(Dubbed version, sorry!). Fantastic sci-fi flick that is funny, chilling and has possible the best looking pair of tits in it in cinematic history. Mr Butternut Squash
Nice thread. Looking forward to checking out some of the stuff posted. I'm weird with films, totally hot and cold. Haven't watched anything in several months but probably go on another binge next week. Â Ones I've seen recentish and liked are House (Japan 1977) which is a bonkers haunted house farce. Suspira meets Scooby Doo with added kung fu and boobs and people turning into bananas. The bit where one of the schoolgirl visitors to the house gets eaten by a piano is one of the funniest, creative and most absurd things I've seen. Â Also enjoyed Where Is the Friends Home? (Iran 1987) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kd79e0UIuM0. It's one of them 'nothing really happens' films but it's nice and breezy and charming enough to get on with. It's the day in the life of a young kid who's trying to return a schoolbook to his mate but keeps being met with obstacles (them pesky Grown Ups). You follow him through the town of Koker through the labyrinth of alleys, stairwells and gorgeous washed out slum walls. Koker was the films biggest star for me. None of the actors are trained so there's the realness and a warmth that illuminates the mundane. Just a simple tale of friendship that I found a pleasure to sit through after a days slog. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted May 6, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted May 6, 2013 Nearly forgot Timecrimes(Dubbed version, sorry!). Fantastic sci-fi flick that is funny, chilling and has possible the best looking pair of tits in it in cinematic history. Â Watching this soon, should really enjoy it considering how much I loved Triangle. Â Watched a couple more - Atmen (Breathing) is an Austrian one that would be perfect for Butch - nothing happens AT ALL. But it was a really good film, nicely acted and with some great points to it. Â A Town Called Panic was absolutely fantastic. One of the best animated films I've ever seen. Really silly, but not just pointlessly odd, and most of all really funny. Nice to see stop-motion still being used as well. Really loved this. Â Both are on US Netflix.
insert_name_here
I figure this is the perfect place to ask this, i'm trying to track down a French comedy film from roughly 3-4 years ago. All i can remember is that it's a spy-based comedy/farce, possibly parodying the James Bond films. Anyone got any idea what i'm banging on about? Â While i'm on the subject of French farce i cannot recommend 'Le D

insert_name_here
OSS 117: Cairo, Nest of Spies That's the one although i had no idea there was a follow up to it, i'll have to check them both out when i get a chance.
ultimo the great
Park Chan-Wook is hugely overrated, I think. Aside from Oldboy, which is overrated itself, I've thought all his films were nothing more than alright. JSA was a disappointment in particular. I'm not a huge fan of Lady Vengeance and i haven't seen I'm a Cyborg,Thirst or Stoker but thought JSA was pretty great. Â House Also enjoyed Where Is the Friends Home? I'll be honest and say i hated both. Â House seems to be a film you need to be high to enjoy and Where Is the Friends House? nearly put me to sleep. That was a long while ago though, my tastes have changed alot over the years and I doubt i'd have liked The Return as much in 2004 but i'm generally not a fan of Iranian films. Â Timecrimes It was alright but just came together too neatly at the end for me. Â Atmen (Breathing) and A Town Called Panic was absolutely fantastic. I've had Breathing on my amazon list for awhile now but tried to watch A Town Called Panic on Film4 a year or so ago and only lasted 15 minutes, irritated the bloody hell out of me. Â Trailer for Sion Sono's next bonkers film

Your film taste is on probation, especially after I discovered you only rated Black Narcissus 2/5. A Town Called Panic is wonderful. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted June 6, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 6, 2013 So I watched some pretty great films last month that were foreign and stuff as well as Breathing and A Town Called Panic:-* I'm Not Scared - Italian mystery crossed with a coming of age story that reminded me a bit of Stand By Me in places. Great film, this.* Pan's Labyrinth - should have watched this years ago. I love Del Toro's Mexican films. Didn't quite like it as much as The Devil's Backbone, but it's quite brilliant in places. I hope Pacific Rim isn't shit.* The Proposition - a really great film, and what a superb actor Guy Pearce is. Emily Watson is fantastic as well.* The Escapist - really cracking twist on the prison escape film. Brian Cox is one of our finest living actors. Plus you get Liam Cunningham at his best as well. What a guy.* The Trap - Serbian thriller about a skint husband and dad who is offered the chance to earn a wedge by assassinating some bloke. Some great twists, the ending totally flattens you, really impressed by this one.* 5 Centimetres Per Second - Japanese animation, bit more romantic than I normally like them but really lovely.* The Bothersome Man - Norwegian dystopian comedy-drama about a bloke who is dumped in a strange town without remembering his past. Really funny and touching at times as well, lovely film.* The Hidden Face - Colombian / Spanish thriller that is one of those you are best off knowing nothing about. A couple of brilliant twists and well acted as well.* Torremolinos 73 - Spanish comedy about a couple that make sex education videos to make ends meet. Mads Mikkelsen pops up as the lead actor in their latest film which is a porn version of The Seventh Seal. Nice little film.* Kontroll - Hungarian black comedy about ticket inspectors on the Budapest Metro. Really funny in parts, might have enjoyed it more if I wasn't coming off the back of a panic attack.* Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema - South African crime actioner about a Soweto ghetto kid who forcibly takes over blocks of flats and makes a fortune. A few usual cliches but great fun for the most part. Most of these were on US Netflix.

Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted June 6, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted June 6, 2013 The way he weaves themes from his music and his own sounds into the film is amazing. I reckon he'd be a great director as well.Apparently he's doing a rewrite for the remake of The Crow. I'm interested.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted August 1, 2013 Author Paid Members Share Posted August 1, 2013 If anyone fancies a Single White Female-esque thriller, albeit more French and with less stabbing, The Page Turner is an absolutely great film. No-one seems to have seen it and they should, it's cracking. It's only about 80 minutes long as well, so you might as well. It's on YouTube:- Â http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mcEp8drfAk
ultimo the great
Watched it a few years ago, i have a strange crush on Deborah Francois (strange due to her really not being what i'd usually go for) even sat through Unmade Beds which is god awful. She's got this odd watchabilty about her, innocent and mysterious. I first saw her in L'enfant/The Child (Palme D'or winner 2005) and kept a look out ever since. Â A few decent films on the YT channel Totally True Love and Under The Sand are worth a watch, just don't watch Hotel its as dull as dishwater. Â More Ghibli's on Films 4 this week, they even showed My Neighbours the Yamada's on TV for the first time this morning. It's repeated on tuesday morning. Â Tomorrow: Ocean Waves Saturday: My Neighbour Totoro Sunday: Arrietty Monday: Ponyo Tuesday: Whisper of the Heart Wednesday: The Cat Returns Thursday: Only Yesterday
The King Of Swing
Trailer for Sion Sono's next bonkers film  Just noticed this and I really want to see that now. Then I checked out amazon to see what else Ono has been up to and now I really want to see The Land of Hope as well. Mr_Danger
Has anyone seen a Spanish film called Intacto? It's quite well known and has Max Von Sydow in it I think. I always wanted to get it but it was never in HMV, is it worth hunting out? The premise really intrigues me. Â A good little Czech film I watched a few years ago was Little Otik. A couple who are desperate for a baby whittle one out of a tree stump and it comes alive with comical murderous intentions. The film also features the most out of place comedy paedophile as well.
