Is there a way to watch that without being a pirate? I've been dying to see it since last year.

I believe it's coming to Mubi in the next couple of weeks.

I also incorrectly referred to the Lady in question as a Woman and I apologise to the Lady in question.

EDIT - It says 3 days on Mubi until it's added on there.

The Apple (ok.ru)

That feeling when you watch a near masterpiece and the director was 17 when she made it. At that age I was playing Doom and eating crisps. Much like today, in fact. Really heartbreaking but beautiful film though, based on real events and using several people who were involved in them.

Ema (Mubi)

From Chilean director Pablo Larrain, probably best known for Jackie (with Natalie Portman) from a few years ago. This guy has made some really good films, Tony Manero probably being the best, but this runs it close. Some great dance routines that even I enjoyed and the lead actress, Mariana Di Girolamo, should go on to be a huge star. Tons of shagging too if you like to be horny and uncomfortable with it.

Just finished Tigertail (on Netflix) which is essentially about an elderly Taiwanese man trying to connect with his estranged daughter. I hadn't heard anything about it beforehand but I thought it was a cracker. It's an understated, slight film - reminded me of a short story more than anything - and it's only 90 minutes long, which these days I'm all for.

Also watched The Whistlers yesterday which is a Romanian crime film. One of those that flits backwards and forwards through the plot to the point you almost lose the thread with it at times. I don't think it quite sticks the landing but it's worth a watch. The main woman in it is ridiculously gorgeous too. If you are thinking of checking this out, please don't read the iMDB synopsis as it pretty much tells you the ending!

Bacurau is next on the list.

Bacurau is brilliant. If you like it, @Lorne Malvo, I highly recommend Neighbouring Sounds and Aquarius from Kleber Mendonca Filho as well.

Knife+Heart (Mubi)

Taking immediate advantage of Mubi opening its library for this, which I've been looking forward to. So, the bloke behind M83 made a gay porn-set slasher film with Vanessa Paradis in the lead. Very 80s inspired, as expected, and the soundtrack is great, also as expected. The middle third isn't great but this was really enjoyable with some inventive murders.

Is there a section on there that points you to the proper 😉 😉 arty films?  Oooo, Belle De Jour is not a bad start.

Not really, the layout's a bit shit and actually doesn't cover all the films they have on board right now.

But somebody on Letterboxd has a full list of films on there currently:-

Touch Me Not is apparently quite fruity though, as is Wet Woman in the Wind.

Had a flick through Mubi. I thought they only showed the few films they had on their homepage. There's loads of amazing films in their library.

I watched The Servant last week. Dirk Bogarde stars as the titular character in a psychological drama / thriller. Very impressed with Joseph Losey's direction.

Purple Noon was another film I really enjoyed. The original Talented Mr. Ripley. Alain Delon pours charisma in this, sanctimonious levels of cool. A Mediterranean stylish crime thriller.

They had a Joseph Losey season recently. The Go-Between is great, as is Mr. Klein and Accident, but Eva was shit. Great director though, The Criminal was excellent too but I'd say The Servant was his best.

Thanks for the tip. No idea where to start now.

A Portrait of a Lady On fire

It's probably the most high profile recent film they have on there but it's absolutely gorgeous, easily one of the best 2019 films I've seen.
