Paid Members air_raid Posted January 10, 2016 Paid Members Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) That would be Bloopers Bleeps & Bodyslams, IIRC. I had a bad copy of that on tape that I bought off a group as it never got released over here. Bret did a fair few jobs between the Rumble and Mania for the Coliseum cameras. On the WrestleFest 94 tape he loses to Diesel after Owen clocks him while Shawn's distracting the ref. This still being "Shawn's bodyguard" Diesel, not even "Intercontinental Champion" level Diesel. Big Kev needed wising up about a few things during the early days. Love that story when an inebriated Razor says "Man, why are you doing that leapfrog? You're the biggest guy in the company. Let them run into you." Edited January 10, 2016 by air_raid
Porkchopcash Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 WWF in 85 should have done A Cannonball Run type mini movie with all the talent and charachters they had.
The Clint Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Speaking of Bret and Coliseum, to this day I still don't get why his WWF Championship win over Flair was recorded as a Home Video exclusive and not televised on an actual broadcast or PPV. That was a fucking huge deal especially in '92.
The Cutting Edge Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Wonder if Lemmy will go into the WWE Hall of Fame this year as the token celeb, 3 wwe tracks and 2 Mania appearences and HHH ofcourse is a huge fan seems like an obvious choice to me

That was a fucking huge deal especially in '92. Wasn't Flair carrying an ear injury he'd picked up wrestling Warrior? He took about a month off from wrestling between mid-October and mid-November, so it's possible that having made the decision that Bret was the one to take it from him, they saw "TVs in Canada" as an ideal spot for him to take it given that they had already started promoting Flair/Razor vs Ultimate Maniacs for the next PPV. As for why they didn't broadcast the match on TV, I can't answer.
The Clint Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Wasn't it because it was rubbish? They put up the Coliseum Home Video logo on the big screen so it was obviously their intention to make it an exclusive right from the start.

Porkchopcash Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) Didnt they even have to restart the match it was considered that poor? I remember tuning into Superstars on the Friday night and it just started with Mean Gene on a podium introducing Bret as the new Champion. It was totally out of the blue, no mention of the match perviously. Edited January 10, 2016 by Porkchopcash
Paid Members air_raid Posted January 10, 2016 Paid Members Posted January 10, 2016 Didnt they even have to restart the match it was considered that poor? You may be getting that confused with the Savage/Flair switch from Superstars which was indeed stopped in progress, the wrestlers ordered to the back, and then started again later.
TibBo Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 I know Flair had an agreement that he was free to go back to WCW if he wasn't going to be used on the main event level. Maybe this is when he found out they were going to run with Bret, and part if the agreement was that the title change wouldn't be shown on syndicated tv? Just guessing, but sounds logical...?

Flair says in his book the conversation which prompted him to ask Vince to let him go (where Vince told him the plan for him was to end up putting Razor over) was in Madison, WI, which they ran on 15th December 1992, two months after the title change. Putting Bret over wasn't the problem, Flair makes it sound like he knew he was being used just to move the belt from Savage to Bret.
Harry Wiseau Posted January 10, 2016 Posted January 10, 2016 Just watching the 99 Rumble match, when Austin is being stretched out into the ambulance there's loads of people in the concourse and outside the building cheering for him...why? Who are these people? I can understand maybe if you were sat by a exit and knew Stone Cold was in the concourse right by you there may be a temptation to nip out and go "yay Austin" but the people outside the building? Have they all just nipped out for a fag during the bloody Rumble?? Maybe I'm thinking too much into it.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted January 10, 2016 Paid Members Posted January 10, 2016 Didn't the demand for shows be so big back then that they used to charge for a big telly outside? I remember SummerSlam 98 sold out in MSG and they sold out a seperate part just to watch the Lion's Den match. Wrestling was on fire back then.
Paid Members JNLister Posted January 10, 2016 Paid Members Posted January 10, 2016 The Flair-Kerry Von Erich match on Christmas 82 was so hot that thousands of people without tickets stood outside in sub-zero temperatures to stare through a window to watch a small screen in the lobby that was hooked up to the arena security cameras.
