I would say is that what you said to the mrs to get her to watch it with you, but you review grot for a living so it might actually be good. I still doubt it unless there's at least one of the following in it Car chase/bare chested knife fight/massive explosion/shootout/gory death scene. I know it's got the bikini frolicing/lessing it up covered.

I think she was more drawn to the lezzing than I was, in fairness.

No, it doesn't have many of the other elements, but it does have Paddy Considine as a religious nutter. In fairness, it is called My Summer Of Love and not My Summer Of Disembowelment although they should definitely make that.

I watched The Princess Bride yesterday. Superb! I'd forgotten loads of it. I don't rate Andre the Giant's wrestling career, but he was wonderful in this. Just a lovely film.

I love The Princess Bride. It's the perfect childrens film that's enjoyable for adults just because of a quality script, and not because they need to stick smarky in-jokes in, or "racy jokes that the little 'uns won't get until they're older".

I do fucking hate those that consider Billy Crystal as the "star" of the film though. He had an extended cameo, nothing more, and his lines were certainly no better than those of pretty much everyone else in the film.

This weekend, I watched Net Games. I'd recently watched Killer Net, and enjoyed the massively misguided ideas of how the internet was going to turn out, and hoped this would be just as enjoyable. I was wrong. It was abysmally shit, and tried to throw in twists that ignored earlier happenings that voided them.

So, I've had this film in my collection for years, and never actually got round to watching it, possibly because I'm a huge Kitano fan and it looked, well, a bit weird in comparison to his gangster movies.

All I can say is that I've just finished crying my eyes out, and this leaps straight into my Top 10 films. Simply beautiful, stunning, adult - funny, tragic but ultimately positive I guess. There are very few people to whom the term "genius" really applies, but Kitano is one of them. I can't imagine anyone else making this film; I can't really work out how you make a film like this.

If you get a chance to see this, don't hesitate. Just put yourself in his hands and go with it. It's right up there with Jean De Florette in terms of pure cinema.

I like it every now and then when a horror/thriller ends with the protagonists being done for, but fucking hell.

I watch a lot of movies, and I'm thoroughly desensitized to whatever a movie throws at me - besides dogs being hurt - but...

It's a great film without the obviously attractive lesbianism, well worth watching the whole thing.

It's not. I bought it the day it came out on DVD, expected great things, and it was a bit shit. I prefer yer man's other Considine film (I forget the name, but he bashes Ben Dover with a plank of wood, Jim Duggan-style), but that one wasn't tremendous either.

How do you know it ends in a gang rape? You don't know that. I know you're on an anti-rape in film thing at the moment, but come on.

The woman about to get murdered.

That aside, there were one too many "I'll seek safety with this person. Uh-oh, they know each other" incidents. But yes, it's one of those films where a scene or two could understandably settle in your mind for a while; for me it's the ending. The tyre-fire death would've been more effective if we weren't shown it, the kid just looked like Ghost Rider junior with his head stuck in a Dunlop.

That was pretty much my interpretation, too. They'd stuck her in the shower to give her a good stabbing so all the blood would wash away. How do you do a gang-rape in the shower? How big's Woyzeck's shower?

It's been a while since I saw it, but

doesn't it end with the woman being dragged screaming into a room by a bunch of blokes? I inferred rape from that, and the way they're handling her seemed to suggest that. But yeah, she's definitely getting murdered one way or the other.

Either way, shitty movie, and the 'twist' was an absolutely fucking ludicrous way of squeezing some more brutality out of it all. A really stupid coincidence because they couldn't write a better 'out'.

Yeah, loath as I am to defend trash like Eden Lake, Woy is dead wrong on this one. Which is kind of shocking seeing as he's completely infallible when it comes to cinematic works.

No, she gets pushed into the bathroom by the dad who tells another guy to put her in the shower. That's it.

I thought it was really good. There were a couple of rank stupid things in it, but I don't mind that in a film like this, and I thought the ending was memorably nasty and uncompromising. I wouldn't watch it again, probably, because it was horrible. Kelly Reilly is lovely, too.

Maybe I'm getting muddled with another shitty exploitation movie. I wonder what made anybody think "You know who'd be a good director for the Woman in Black remake? The guy who did Eden Lake!"

Eden Lake from what I have read seems like one of those films that is nasty for the sake of it which is why I have avoided it for so long but I will get around to it after I finally get around to watching The Mist.
