Thirteen candidates stood in the seat. The results are:

Charlie Baillie - British National Party - 1,013 votes (4.92%)

William Bain - Labour - 12,231 (59.39%)

Eileen Baxendale - Liberal Democrats - 474 (2.30%)

Mev Brown - Independent - 32 (0.16%)

Colin Campbell - The Individuals Labour and Tory (Tilt) - 13 (0.06%)

Ruth Davidson - Conservatives - 1,075 (5.22%)

David Doherty - Scottish Greens - 332 (1.61%)

Mikey Hughes - Independent - 54 (0.26%)

David Kerr - SNP - 4,120 (20%)

Louise McDaid - Socialist Labour Party - 47 (0.23%)

Kevin McVey - Scottish Socialist Party - 152 (0.74%)

Tommy Sheridan - Solidarity - 794 (3.86%)

John Smeaton - Independent Backed by the Jury Team - 258 (1.25%)

So, the BNP score more votes than the Liberal Democrats, Scottish Greens, Socialist Labour Party, Scottish Socialist Party, Solidarity and Smeato?

Christ, they nearly topped the Tories, coming in fourth behind them, Labour and the SNP.

Big Nick will be happy with that i'd imagine.

It's disappointing that there are three candidates from the left there (who collectively got about 20 votes less than the BNP). I wish the left could get their act together, the splintering does my head in.

Fucking tell me about it. It's ridiculous the way they carry on - splintering and factioning over quibbling points of doctrine should be left until way after they've established a left-wing government. Until then, it's just all academic, and is about as big and clever as arguing over the internet.

"Basically because the BNP stuff was getting old."

just noticed this, from late October. It makes hardcore_harry's insidious attempts since to repeatedly bring this thread back to all things BNP all the more hateful.

Just felt the idea of Nick Griffin actually hoping to become an MP in the near future relevant to the thread.

You know, I reckon people have got the guy all wrong.

I mean, how could you not trust a face like this?

He's certainly no more trustworthy than this man;

We can always assume that Griffin would want to invade middle eastern countries, force the UK into joining the European Union just because it suits his agenda, regardless of the opinion of the public, employ a policeforce that sees fit to knock fuck out of protesters and shoot innocent tubestation travellers in the head.

With Brown we know it all to be true.

Pretty sure Gordon Brown wasn't Prime Minister in 1973.

So the debates for the 3 main parties have been agreed and sorted. Alex Salmond still wants representation for the Westninister Parliament Elections despite them having seperate debates for Scotland, Wales and the NI assembly. And now the Greens, UKIP and Plaid Cymru want in on the act as well. They all say it is undemocratic as they are not being given a chance

I give up. The idea was that the 3 main represented parties form the last election (as I understand it) are to have a debate. This would exclude the minority parties that would have little or no bearing on the overal election result, unless there was a hung parliament.

There will be time given to the other parties that is representative of their stature and size in palriament as has to be done under whatever fair play rules there are.

But seriously, too many cooks, you wont get to know anyones view unless, a) the debates last for approximately 4 hours and b) you include everyone including the independent Mps who have no leader as by the rules that the minor parties are bleating about would extend to them.

Alex Salmond is a fucking MSP anyway Angus Robertson is leader of the SNP at Westminster

Considering his party want to leave the Westminster parliament for good, I'm surprised he's even got the cheek to put up candidates for MPs nowadays, let alone demand equal standing with leaders of non-nationalist parties. What a disgrace that man is.
