Chris Benoit dead

On the Today SHow clicp, when they show pictures of wrestlers who have died, they show a picture of Owen Hart, but the name Reads "Davey Boy Smith: The Brisith Bulldog" and cause of death reads "Heart Attack".It annoys me when news programs don't do their research, but it's a bit worse when they show one dead man and name him as another.

While that did annoy me slightly, I'd hate for wrestling fans to focus on that and not discuss what's got to be the flimsiest excuse in the history of accusations; Vince saying he and his company are only responsible if people die while under contract. That was a shockingly transparent claim that deserved a far bigger grilling that what it recieved. And yeah, while they can currently hide behind the, "wait for the toxicology report," line, I have no idea what they're going to do when the results come in. I mean, is there a single person on this forum who's expecting anything other than them finding an abudance of shit that Benoit was taking? Originally I thought they'd ride this tragedy just like they did Eddie's, with things perhaps changing in the short-term but ultimately returning to how they've always been. I'm starting to think otherwise now, especially with the feds raiding that doc's office. This has the potential to be massive. Edited by Supremo

I do believe that Chris Benoit has started the beginning of the end of the WWE. This is going to be massive, and although the WWE is legally blameless (you don't see the National Baseball League being blamed for individual's uses of steroids) the sensationalist publicity, as well as the taboo that anabolic steroids have in western culture, could mean that this will cause Vince's Rome to fall.

I have honestly thought about this for the last couple of days. I truely think this could be the biggest shock to the WWE ever and could be something that may not finish the WWE off completely will change it forever.Cue eerie music !

Just watching the Today interview, Vince says Benoit is the 5th wrestler to die under contract. I'll admit that is a shit excuse but I have to say that Vince handled himself not too bad in a interview that I don't think he had to do (I would have thought one of the networks that airs Raw or Smackdown would have "asked" him to give an exclusive interview) where it was obvious he was going to be attacked. Of course, whilst the WWE have supposedly erased all mention of Benoit (although last night at least he was still in one of the bonus matches for ordering the Vengeance webcast) HMV were still quite happy to make money off the Benoit Hard Knocks DVD. Still had it on sale when I was in today.edit:I don't think this is the end of the WWE. I do think it should be the end of the WWE as we know it. Judging from a lot of peoples' views on the recent WWE product though, that might not be a bad thing.

FOX NEWS REPORTING WIKIPEDIA LISTED NANCY BENOIT'S DEATH BEFORE BENOIT FAMILY WAS DISCOVERED

by Mike Johnson @ 1:57:00 PM on 6/28/2007

The Fox News Network reported a chilling twist to the Benoit tragedy this afternoon, noting that an Chris Benoit profile entry on the wikipedia website was changed to note that he missed the WWE Vengeance PPV, "due to personal issues, stemming from the death of his wife Nancy" 14 hours before the Benoit family was found dead.

The IP was traced to a (so far) anonymous user originating in Stamford, CT, which of course is the headquarters of World Wrestling Entertainment.

wikipedia volunteer coordinator Cary Bass contacted the Fayetteville police department in regard to the posting. The police department did not return calls for comment.

It should be noted that with wikipedia, anyone can edit entries on the online encylopedia, which often leads to misinformation on topics and personalities. Given the timing of the Benoit tragedy, obviously, authorities will be seeking to track down whoever made that change.

Daniels Mental illness could of been what drove Benoit to kill him. He could of felt sory for Daniela nd not want him to grow up with such a harsh life due to disability, or Benoit felt he could no longer look after him.

According to My Fox Atlanta (Fox 5 News) drug agents have raided the office of the personal physician of wrestler Chris Benoit. The office of Dr. Phil Astin was raided overnight with agents confiscating computers. Dr. Astin has told the Associated Press that he had prescribed testoserone for the wrestler in the past and had seen him on Friday, the day it is believed that Benoit killed his wife. Drug agents told FOX 5 News the investigation of Dr. Astin stems from prescription drugs found in the Benoit home after Benoit killed his wife, son and himself.

Apparently, the drug squad got mixed up and smashed into the home of UKFF member Phil Austin. All they found were thousands and thousands of SHIMMER DVDs...

The Fox News story about the Wikipedia timings is gumf - turns out the original edit 'from Stamford CT' was actually made by someone in Australia using a spoof IP address. The time zone difference is why it appeared to be posted much earlier.

Isn't Australia ahead of the US in time? Thus meaning the posting would be later rather than earlier?

I've only just downloaded the Benoit tribute show and, not realising they were originally showing comments from his DVD (I've never seen it) I got a bit of a shock when the first comment from a long-term friend was "knowing him for 20 years, there's no surprise to me that he did what he did".

Not much to add, Just thought I'd copy and paste Matt Hardys myspace blog regarding the whole situation.

Matt Hardy posted the following on his MySpace.com blog I haven't always agreed with every decision Vince McMahon has made, but I do agree with everything he's done dealing with this situation thus far. Out of respect for the sudden death of Benoit's family and his contributions to the business, I think Vince did the right thing by canceling the scheduled Raw. When the decision was made to make Raw a Chris Benoit tribute show, the WWE was only doing what seemed respectful and right at that time. When more information was discovered, the WWE took a different and appropriate stance towards their programming. The ECW and Smackdown shows this week were dedicated to our great fans. Wrestling fans who were grieving and confused over this tragedy needed us, including me, to entertain them. I feel it is my responsibility, as well as my pleasure, to put smiles on people's faces and give them an escape from reality. I know Vince feels that way as well.Chris Benoit was always kind, considerate, and professional when I interacted with him. Like everyone else, I was shocked when everything came out. I can't believe Chris Benoit and his wife and child are dead as I type this. As of now, all of the strange pieces of this puzzle haven't been put together yet. My thoughts and prayers go out to Benoit's other two children as well as the immediate family and friends of the deceased. More than anything, I feel terrible for little Daniel--he was as innocent as any human being could possibly be. This is a terrible and sad tragedy.I am very disappointed with how many media outlets are lapping the entire population of professional wrestlers into this situation. There are many outstanding, wonderful people that do so many great things for the world that I work and wrestle with. It's not fair or accurate.Tell the people you love that you love them, and never lose sight of what's really important in life. We may not ever understand why this tragedy happened, but we have to learn from it. Stay strong--life is too precious and too short. I have much more I want to say about the activities of the last few days. If it's appropriate, I definitely will. Be well my friends, I'll talk to you soon...
