I'd be amazed if I ever saw that segment as a kid; I never watched RAW, and I can't imagine that segment made it on to any of the highlight shows. I also think I was probably done with wrestling at that point - I think I watched from '94 to '96 and maybe a bit of 1997; I have a vague memory of seeing the clip of Shawn Michaels superkicking Bret when he was in a wheelchair, which would be about a month earlier than this, so maybe, but I still think it's unlikely. I'm mostly replying just to say what an awfully booked bit of business that is. Just like the Rumble you were in, you introduce these two massive heavyweights, only to immediately have Davey Boy bodyslam one of them, and then have them go evens brawling with the fucking Headbangers, even getting cut off while going to the top rope. Mental. Quote

Mental. Cornette has mentioned Davey went into business for himself because he had no interest in working with them. So that basically killed them dead on arrival. Quote
Chico Torres Posted Thursday at 01:07 PM Posted Thursday at 01:07 PM The Headhunters were great and I remember seeing great pictures of them in the magazines and on the seedy WING tapes you would get from tape traders. The problem that was evident when they came to the WWF was that they were actually a lot shorter than you expected and they were doomed when the expectation of fat guys were the likes of Yoko, Earthquake, Vader etc. Unfortunately they were just too small. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted Thursday at 01:33 PM Paid Members Posted Thursday at 01:33 PM which is frustrating, because being a tag team of identical twins should be enough to get around at least some of that - they're not as big as an Earthquake or a Yoko, but there's two of the fuckers. They should have been Three Minute Warning before Three Minute Warning, fat lads doing moonsaults and fucking people up. But for all that 1997 gave us a lot of good things from the WWF, it was hardly an embarrassment of riches for the tag team division - if there were some smaller teams for them to lob about, maybe they'd have fared better, but it's all Davey Boy and Owen and the DOA and Nation of Domination, all other massive lads. And when they did get a proper team in Furnas & LaFon they never knew what to do with them either. It's just weird that twice they did a one-off appearance, got fucked off by Davey Boy, and then vanished. Quote
Chico Torres Posted Thursday at 08:00 PM Posted Thursday at 08:00 PM Unlike the headhunters, identical twin tag teams were generally shite like the Heil Harris twins, the Cole twins, the Batten twins, the Power twins…not great precedents which may have caused hesitancy. But I agree with the point and the Headhunter A vs Headhunter B glass death match is a long time favourite. Quote

This clip is phenomenal. 1997 chaos distilled. These days, the whole thing would be so clean and tidy. Owen would get the win, the Headbangers would vanish, then the fat lads would run out and do the beatdown. That’d be it. Everyone would hit their marks. Here, Owen pins Mosh, who immediately jumps up and carries on fighting. During this bonkers no-sell of the finish, Davey is seemingly too pilled up to even notice his partner is being beaten up, so continues to pose and do cartwheels. And then as soon as the Headhunters come out you can sense Davey, Owen and even Vince himself give up on them mid-segment, leaving them to brawl with the Headbangers instead. Vince already slagging them off for their look is incredible. You can hear him immediately realise he has a pair of Vaders on his hands and isn’t about to waste anywhere near the amount of time on them that he did stinky Leon. What a fascinating mess of a segment. Pro-wrestling used to be better. You don’t know what you’ve got ‘til it’s gone. *I keep watching the Bulldog cartwheel and it gets funnier every time. There’s a Gangrela Effect for you. I thought the British Bulldog was a normal, competent wrestler as a kid. It’s only watching his stuff back that he’s probably the funniest wrestler to ever live. rollthedice Posted Friday at 10:06 AM Posted Friday at 10:06 AM (edited) I definitely fell for the Henning one. It sounded like the ring announcer and commentators were saying Henning. For years I thought the WCW commentators were calling a tilt - a - whirl backbreaker, tilt the world. Edited Friday at 10:08 AM by rollthedice Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted Friday at 10:17 AM Paid Members Posted Friday at 10:17 AM For years I thought Jericho's Fozzy moniker was Mongoose McQueen. It was only few years ago I was reading a thread on here and realised his name was Moongoose. My version rolls off the tongue better anyway. Moongoose McQueen is a right mouthful. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted Friday at 11:53 AM Paid Members Posted Friday at 11:53 AM I always thought it was Mongoose as well. Quote

Paid Members BomberPat Posted yesterday at 09:04 AM Paid Members Posted yesterday at 09:04 AM I was sure there's a WCW VHS tape that had Hennig misspelled as Henning, though Googling makes me think that must be a Mandela Effect, as I can't see any evidence of it. A wrestler mate of mine said he misheard WCW commentators saying "Flyin' Brian" and for ages as a kid thought that Brian Pillman's gimmick name was "Brian Brian". Quote

We ended up with Kelly Kelly so why not? Similarly, I spent 3 months in the summer of '98 thinking Mankind was called Nick Foley because of watching Raw on VHS that had been recorded on about 3000 times Quote
Browser Brady Posted yesterday at 11:57 AM Posted yesterday at 11:57 AM (edited) Here is my one…. I could have sworn : In a late 1992 issue of WWF magazine there was a recent in ring picture of Bob Backlund , with someone in an armbar. In the background was the entrance way/set of SummerSlam 92 at Wembley. Nobody had a recollection of this nor Is there any proof that this actually happened. In my mind i can still see the picture…..
