Paid Members RedTwoster Posted 12 hours ago Author Paid Members Posted 12 hours ago On the subject of ECW, there was the BWO's short-lived run on Smackdown, on the back of JBL legitimately assaulting Blue Meanie on the ECW One Night Stand show for calling him a bully (perfect way to prove an allegation like that wrong - well done, Bradshaw) It resulted in Meanie getting a win over JBL on Smackdown - presumably to discourage him from suing the company: Then the BWO briefly reformed on Smackdown, taking on the Mexicools in a match before the gimmick was dumped and Meanie was never seen on WWE television again. 2 minutes ago, SuperBacon said: What about Rob Bartlett who was one of the original announcers on Raw? He got canned pretty sharpish didn't he? As far as announcers go, whatever happened to Goldenboy with AEW? He announced a show, was genuinely excellent, the company gave him the All Elite graphic... And then he completely disappeared. Quote

Paid Members Statto Posted 12 hours ago Paid Members Posted 12 hours ago If we're doing announcers - Adnan Virk. Previously an ESPN studio host (until he was let go after investigation into company information being leaked) he was hired and thrust into the PBP spot on Raw, and was dreadful at it. He miraculously made it 6 weeks before leaving via mutual consent (claiming the schedule didn't suit him/his family). Quote

Harry Smith/Davey Boy Jr. Re-signed in July 2021 after wrestling a dark match. Released in November without being on tv. Eric Young re-signed with WWE in November 2022. Didn’t appear on tv at all and left at some point in 2023 when he asked for his release. Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted 10 hours ago Paid Members Posted 10 hours ago Bruce Pritchard has a couple of short lived announcing gigs around 1992/93. "The Wizard" on All-American is unmistakenly him. You can hear it in some of the matches in the below compilation. Then Reo Rogers, a weird character parodying Dusty Rhodes that did actually have a couple of segments outside commentary before they quickly realised it was fucking shit. Pritchard's contribution to the business can, in fact, be summed up with those two words: fucking shit. Quote

I can't imagine he's someone who is sitting on a particularly sizeable bank balance, so I can't but respect the fact he seemingly stuck to his morals. There are plenty of people with much less to lose who've been unable to do the same. Huh, how did that get there? Quote
Chico Torres Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago Surely one of the most impactful short lived announcers, so short lived he never made tv is former Freebird and the Gorgeous one Jimmy “Jam” Garvin. His line from a try out saying “I said are you ready for the Survivor Series” became immortalized at the start of the Wrestlemania song. Would love to know the story behind it. How of all the things they could have used they took a line from an untelevized try out and how did they even get their hands on it, and why they used that line for a song about Wrestlemania?? Quote

He came back with Viscera for a handicap match with the Undertaker and got resigned, didn't have any more matches on TV, got promised some kind of thing in ECW which never happened and got released. Pretty sure Henry Godwin was signed around this time too and then released without many (any?) matches, certainly none on the main roster at least. And not long after (2008ish? 2010?) D’Lo Brown popped back for a bit. Maybe one televised match against Santino and that was it? Quote

Whole televised comeback lasted less than 10 minutes of belltime, with lots of house show matches putting over Manu. Quote

Always thought it was because Stock, Aitken and whoever produced the song had no actual real knowledge and just listened for catchy sound clips. I'm punting they actually didn't know what a Survivor Series was. That "I were watching the Wrestlemania" last week when a non fan relative caught an episode of Superstars or something. Quote

Very likely, but curious on who would have supplied them with this clip specifically that’s just from an unaired demo. They asked for a clip and someone decided to send them Jimmy Jams job interview tape. And that no one said anything after hearing it. Quote
