Paid Members Carbomb Posted August 11 Paid Members Posted August 11 The whole thing with Will and Jada Smith reminds me of a similar situation, i.e. Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Depp would be one of the biggest falls, in terms of public perception (it doesn't appear to have affected him much in terms of getting work); judging from what emerged from the court case, it's clear he and Heard brought out the worst in each other. Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted August 11 Moderators Posted August 11 Well, they're similar situations in that everyone involved seems to be awful and that a heavy dose of misogyny has been on open display in shaping the overall public opinion of those involved. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted August 11 Paid Members Posted August 11 Antony Worrall Thompson wasn’t seen much after he got caught nicking from Tesco was he? He seemed to be everywhere at one point, I think Kay of Kay’s Cooking uses one of his pans but that’s all I’ve heard of him in forever. Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted August 11 Members Posted August 11 One I was reminded of the other day was Tulisa. Was on X-Factor and absolutely everywhere, then within a years span, an ex sold a sex tape of her, she got 'caught' by that fake sheikh nobhead for allegedly trying to sell them coke and was dropped by everywhere. It always seemed really harsh for her to have to go through that all when she hadn't done anything wrong. Barlow was also a right twat to her on the show. This was what reminded me, interesting read: https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2026/aug/05/tulisa-contostavlos-interview-n-dubz-press-regulation-campaign-sun-on-sunday-sting Quote

Seemed really grounded and down to earth and a good laugh. *I don't watch it but my parents are obsessed - honest! Quote
wordsfromlee Posted August 11 Posted August 11 Lance Armstrong had his legacy pretty much erased after the doping scandal came out. Graham Linehan torpedoed his career and personal life firmly into the ground. Shia Lebouf was looking to become a big Hollywood name after being in Transformers and the Indianan Jones film but a string of controversies have seemed to stall that. Lizzo is a recent one too. She released an album this year which is the first since all the allegations about her misconduct towards her staff, and it failed to chart in the US Billboard 200. So it seems like she's done. I'm equally interested in the people who seem to be immune to it as well. Chris Brown being one. Loads of really bad shit about him keeps coming out all the time, but yet it doesn't seem to really effect his career at all. Quote

My mate's girlfriend was wearing a tshirt with his face on and I asked why she'd wear that and she said she didn't care as she likes his music. Apparently it's that simple. Quote

Yep, exactly that. In the specific context of the thread, it's definitely a massive fall from grace for Depp, considering where he started and where he ended up. Quote
davertfnewman Posted August 11 Posted August 11 I think the same for Smith, as he and Depp were big stars and the respective wives weren't household names in the same way. Quote

There is no way I'd condone Chris Brown as he's an absolute cunt, but some people don't care about what he did to Rihanna, and there's a line for everyone, and they've decided its not over their line. It would be very reductive to point out people we all still watch or listen to in music, film, wrestling etc but there you go, we probably all still do. Quote

I like to think there's some (Ian Watkins) where there isn't a choice to be made but even then.. Quote

It's slightly different as he was found innocent, but Craig Charles is known as Teflon Craig in my household. Even though he was acquitted, assault charges and drug possession/addiction would be enough to sink most celebs but he's still hanging around! Quote

I've seen a number of arguments for why Chris Brown was never cancelled. I think one of the biggest ones is that he always had a huge, very young female fanbase, and loads of them hated Rihanna just for dating him. When the domestic violence incident happened, he lost quite a lot of them, but loads stuck around and were just happy they had broken up. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted August 11 Paid Members Posted August 11 I mean, people still enjoy Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis despite their paedo tendencies, so it's not altogether surprising. Quote
