It’s such a weird logic that only seems to exist in wrestling, telling your audience to ‘just enjoy it’. Enjoyment doesn’t work like that, it’s on you as a booker to create than feeling.

If you turn your show into one big infomercial and cosy up to the Trump administration, it’s hardly surprising that an audience might be less enthusiastic about what you’re doing.

Thing is he DOES care what they thing, massively, or he wouldn't be saying it. But people aren't being positive or asking him why his booking is similar to a runaway freight train, so because he's delightfully thin skinned he does statements like this, where he angles that criticism of stuff he's responsible for is pointless because it's wrestling.

The only time they come out with these stupid interviews where they start talking about internet fans and all that other rubbish is when the product sucks. It's their natural reaction to not being able to handle criticism. It isn't "oh maybe we should do better!" it's "well they're obviously wrong fuck them!" which is so stupid.

I'd love to see Hunter's CV with his school grades on.

"D D F F F according to the school but what do they know? They should just enjoy my work."

Triple 4H Club. It's the children who are wrong.

I love how thin-skinned and immature it makes them look. Billion dollar business ran by children.

I’m sure there are examples of creators similarly lashing out when a game, film or album isn’t commercially or critically successful, but it feels far rarer. With WWE, it’s almost the default reaction.

I think it’s a hangover from the carny roots. The whole industry was built on the arrogant belief that you were working the marks. With such an ingrained lack of respect for your audience, the only explanation whenever they’re not enjoying your product is that they must be somehow wrong.

It’s the ultimate irony of WWE Unreal. They went to great lengths to explain how the sausage was made, hoping to prove how great and smart they all are, but all it did was prove it’s nowhere near as complex as they think it is, and your sausages have been bland as fuck since the Netflix debut.

Which is really weird because apparently it's just a bit of fun and people shouldn't be overthinking it. So in turn, doesn't that mean they're not actually writing a deep or smart product but instead just something basic for enjoyment? They can't have it all ways.

I don't know if this is the attitude of the creators, probably not, but Doctor Who fans are the kings of desperately wanting you to treat the show like it's high art, and if any flaws are pointed out (of which, many) they immediately revert to "well it's a kids show, please do not scrutinise it!"

I think a lot of niche and nerdy interests jumped on "it's art!" as a defence against people making fun of them for liking it, thinking that "art" means it's grown-up and sophisticated, but without understanding that if we accept that this thing is art then we have to be open to it being critiqued as art, and it's that second part that they really struggle with. They don't want it to be art, they want to be ten years old again but this time they're not getting bullied for the thing they like.

And generally - if something is good then you get less criticism. If you don't want criticism then don't be shite!

I always think of this when people call wrestling cinema or "making movies" or a TV show like any other TV show.

If you judged wrestling on an equal footing to any of those things it's pretty much the shittest thing of all time.

I had to go back and make sure I hadn’t dreamt it. He did actually say it, the grotesquely ugly freak.

Chef’s kiss that he spoke this level of shit after the Netflix debut. The very show that in retrospect became this boom’s Shark Jump. They went so far up in their own arse that they turned inside out and never recovered.

When you’re on top of the world it’s high art, deserving of an Emmy. When things go south it’s actually silly fun, and you’re the dumb one for taking it so seriously.

Paul Heyman didn’t actually fancy you, anyway! He’s already got a girlfriend. You don’t know her. She goes to a different school.

Imagine wanting to give Roman Reigns an Emmy when Hangman Adam Page gave such a dramatic performance in something as pathetic as wrestling for about 5 years consistently, so good that we overlooked his choice of mates until it was just out there. All of us suckered in. Now that's a convincing Emmy performance.

Anyway, Heyman will probably go on about ECW paving the way for the modern day Emmy awards in his next interview. He never wanted one anyway. People who ACTUALLY want Emmy's and are not just working an angle that the marks are too stupid to understand are saaaaaaadddd.
