Thread might die on its arse but I was just thinking about this. What are some of the little touches that you love in certain matches? Can be anything from a certain detail on a finish, a certain way someone sells a move or reacts to a moment, something done as a one-off on an entrance, a specific tweak on ring gear for a match maybe. Whatever. Anything you can think of that springs to mind.

I just watched the Hart Foundation vs Brain Busters match from SummerSlam 89 for about the 954th time on the Vault. My favourite match from one of my favourite WWF shows from probably my favourite era of wrestling. I know I’ve mentioned it before somewhere on here but I’m a huge fan of this little touch at the finish. Bret’s got Tully beat, the referee’s distracted, Arn comes off the second rope and absolutely wastes Bret with a double axe handle to the back of the head, which Bret sells beautifully like it’s killed him. Arn makes the cover but, aware that he’s the illegal man, hides his massive bald spot with Bret’s arm on the pin so the ref won’t clock that it’s not Tully.

Perfect bastard shithouse heel tactics. Neidhart’s timing of almost getting there in time to make the save but not quite is spot on as well. Just an incredibly well done match and finish that I always wish led to more between these two teams. But we just got this one corker and that was it. Better than nothing. Always appreciated Arn’s bastardry there though.

Over to you.

The way Bret Hart always got in the ring with that little sit between the top and middle rope. I love noticing little specifics exclusively to the individual like that. Macho Man Randy Savage had a similar trait of holding the middle and almost skip jumping through them too.

Also the way Dustin Rhodes would miss a big flying clothesline off the ropes, crash and burn and fly under the bottom rope and usually end up clattering the guard rail. He does it a fair bit, and pitch perfectly in his match with Bunkhouse Buck at Spring Stampede '94. Big fella goes absolutely flying at an incredible speed.

I cannot for the life of me think of the match, but know someone will save me.

Bret Hart comes out of a lock up, and does this little headshake as if to say "oh...OK then, this'll be tougher than I thought"

It's a fantastic little touch.

Also him doing a sort of pretend "oooh I'm scared" after Takers pyro goes off at Summerslam 97. He added so many brilliant little details.

The 123 Kid match, Raw, July '94. Brilliant suggestion.

CM Punk’s second cash in on Jeff Hardy, the first pinfall Jeff kicks out of with his trailing leg so when Punk hits the GTS the second time he makes sure to wrap the trailing leg with his own legs to make absolutely sure of the pin

This spot in the Raven vs Goldberg match:-

They didn't overplay the 'fans' throwing him back and it was the perfect match and time to do a spot like that because everyone was at fever pitch for Goldberg to win a title. A great moment in one of the greatest matches.

something I noticed Jeff Jarrett doing a lot as a heel in AEW was that if someone was going to kick out of The Stroke, he would take a moment to gloat before covering them - laughing or wiping his hands to say "it's done", anything like that - so he burns a couple of seconds before going for the win, so his finish was still protected because he gave his opponent time to recover.

Ah ain't Jeff great? Bryan using a kendo stick to make sure Orton tapped was a great spot. Making a painful move even more painful

Warrior walking to the ring for the ‘Career Ending’ Match at Wrestlemania VII. Even the wild, out of control maniac knew the stakes involved in the match.

Conversely I liked that at VI everyone came out in the little carts except Warrior who ran to the ring and Hogan who did his usual power march with ear cupping. Anything that makes the main event stand out, you do!

Goldberg’s best match for me that.

It’s hard to top. And the only reasonable challenger to Kid/Owen for best 5 minute match ever. DDP gave Bill a good scrap too.

Speaking of Owen v Kid, there was a great touch to their match they had on RAW in 1998 and they did the same Dropkick to the Outside opening spot only with Kid doing it to Owen instead of the other way round as they did at KOTR 94. They didn’t make a big thing out of it on commentary or anything, but it’s a fun little callback to the first match for those that remember it.
