That Dean Ambrose match where he went to hit someone with a TV and for some reason it exploded in his face.

I think that was against Wyatt as well. Seems to be a theme!

That whole period of latter 2014 is fucking terrible.

Rollins and Ambrose had had a stinker of a HIAC Match in October in which Dean lost because he got spooked by some apparition of Wyatt in the middle of the ring.
That was the set up for a stinker between Dean & Bray at Survivor Series the following month, which ended in a DQ so as to set up the TV Exploding Match at TLC in December.

Just fucking awful

Am I misremembering, but did another Hell in a Cell match end with a draw/no finish due to Brock Lesnar interfering?

Not having the Cody vs Big Show finish. I didn’t mind it. Made a change to see something as simple as that cost someone the match and Big Show sold it well.

Yeah the year before the one I mentioned. Reigns vs Strowman in 2018. Also featured interference from Rollins(Ugh) and Ziggler(Ughhh).

I think it was the Bray Wyatt/Randy Orton Wrestlemania match where a projection of cockroaches or something went on the ring to distract Randy but then he immediately hit an RKO and won anyway.

Ryback slowly dropping Mark Henry safely on his own head to lose at Wrestlemania was one of the most pathetic babyface losses I can think of.

Very specific one, but the first WWF show I went to was the European Rampage show in Birmingham in April of 1993. Main event was Luger/Perfect with Luger doing the back suplex into a pin, with Perfect lifting his shoulder so that Luger pins himself. Not even a Perfectplex.

That got a legitimately decent reaction the first time they did it in the match, it was something that they’d never done before and it caught people off guard. They then proceeded to do it another two times in the same match and by the third time people were just laughing at it.

Another Bray* v Orton at Wrestlemania match was the one at 37 were they fought under the dark lights with a huge Jack In The Box at ringside. The match ended with Wyatt getting his heart broken by Alexa Bliss turning on him and her head leaking some kind of black gunk that even Papa Shango would’ve thought was a bit shit.
That went absolutely nowhere as Bray was then off TV afterwards and released later in the year.

* I say Bray but I also remember reading reports of people saying that it was Bo Dallas that worked the match, but I’m fairly sure it was Bray himself as Bo isn’t anywhere near as physically big as was

I’ve been working for months on a list of finishes I despised over the years because specifically they make no sense in regards to the ref looking an idiot for which he’d be sacked in a real sport.

For now, let’s go with one WCW loved. Where a manager interferes and for some reason the ref allows the babyface to win the match by pinning the manager even though that’s not his opponent. In doing House Show Happenings 2 I’ve encountered 2 televised examples in 1989 alone, where Eddie Gilbert was allowed to beat The Great Muta by pinning Gary Hart, and Shane Douglas won by pinning Jim Cornette even though he was wrestling Stan Lane. Just fuck off.

That one summer when Brock Lesnar was beating everyone with one F5, in an attempt to protect the move so Roman Reigns looked superhard when he kicked out of 5 or whatever. Beating people with one finisher isn't a bad idea in theory, but the problem was, people had been kicking out of multiple F5s for years at that point anyway so sudeenly reverting to 'one F5 is enough' made all the opponents look like losers. Then Reigns kicking out of a shitload of them made them look like even bigger losers in restrospect.

And let’s remember, Reigns ended up kicking out of the first 4 or 5 to still lose at Mania 34 so the biggest loser ended being him.

My abiding memory of that match is Cole referring to it as a "box-like structure". It's a fucking box.

Haha, I’ll have to take you word for it as I’ve not watched it back since it happened, but that definitely does sound d like something Cole would’ve been forced to have said around that time (see also Mark Henry’s “limb-like arms”)

See also him referring to Kairi Sane having a ‘Yacht Persona’

WWF building up Lex Luger as the new Hulk Hogan for an entire summer, only to have him beat Yokozuna by count out in his supposedly only opportunity at winning the belt. He celebrates not being the champion by waving the American flag atop the shoulders of the Steiners whilst Tatanka and Randy Savage cheer lead whilst tickertape and balloons rain down from the rafters.

With SummerSlam around the corner let's look back at SS 93. Was there ever a reason given on a shoot interview or podcast or a theory as to why Luger celebrated a

Even as a 13 yr old i couldnt work out why they were celebrating a count out like he'd just singlehandidly rid the world of ward, famine and disease?

Very strange ending. Non one in 1993 wanted wanted Yoko as champ

Years later on some shoot id heard Lex WAS meant to go over but got pissed and told the press or something and was punished for it. Not sure how true that was.

Lex was never really likeable as a face so itd have made more sense for him to win, and then shortly act like a massive c**t  saying it was all an act to get a title shot. You'd then have had a massive run of faves to work with like Bret, Razor, Savage. Tatanka, all of whom youd have got a better set of matches headlining than the guff we suffered through with Yoko!

Kenny Omega v Jon Moxley and the 'exploding ring'....so awful especially with Eddie Kingston covering Mox to protect him from a few glorified sparklers on the ringposts.

As shit as it was I’m glad they did the right thing and turned into a kind of narrative. But it was the first big misstep for AEW and it certainly ruined a lot of the good reputation it had experienced up until then.

It gets a bit of a pass from thanks to how they turned into a narrative, and in kayfabe at least Eddie looked like a total hero. In his mind the whole place was about to blow, and he was prepared to sacrifice himself for Mox by throwing himself on to top him to take the explosion.
