Version1.0 Posted August 17, 2025 Posted August 17, 2025 The fans made it pretty clear they don't want Vikingo as their top babyface. Quote

I don’t think networks care about that stuff for international rights. Anyway, on the show. I didn’t really care for it much as a show but it gave me one of the best memories as a parent. My 3 year old was tuned into wrestling for the first time ever (despite my numerous attempts) the moment Micro Man came running down. He was tuned into the full match after that and liked all the characters. He watched a bit more of the show - his only negative reaction was to Penta, who he says is “a monster”. Quote
RedTwoster Posted August 17, 2025 Posted August 17, 2025 I didn’t think that was a particularly good show, but what’s the story with Vikingo? Why were the crowd so down on him. Konnan gave the kind of announcing performance that would make Booker T feel like a significant upgrade. At best, you could describe him as horrendous. Quote

Why were the crowd so down on him. They have been for months; the AAA crowd had rejected him as an undeserving corporate picked champion, particularly after he was repeatedly booked to go over Alberto, who was getting massive babyface reactions even as a heel. What's fascinating is that it's clearly WWE positioning Vikingo as the top guy, but they're not getting the heat for it - WWE talent are treated like megastars. Quote
AshC Posted August 17, 2025 Posted August 17, 2025 I thought this was a fun show, especially when they leant more into the authentic AAA stuff. I've seen enough people arriving at wrestling events to last a lifetime though. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted August 18, 2025 Paid Members Posted August 18, 2025 Why is the show called Triplemania? Quote
Paid Members JLM Posted August 18, 2025 Paid Members Posted August 18, 2025 (edited) Because the promotion name AAA in both English and Spanish is said out loud as “Triple A”. More like “Treeplay-Ah” in Spanish but the spelling is the same. And this show is their annual biggest show of the year a la Wrestlemania. Confusingly there have been years with multiple Triplemanias in the same year or at different times of year, but most commonly there’s one especially big show in the summer time under that name and it’ll have the blow off matches to big feuds and long running stories etc. like Wrestlemania. ultimo the great Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 It was also intended to be 3 shows, 3 times Wrestlemania. I haven't watched AAA in a couple of months, so watched Triplemania to see if anything was left of AAA and nope it's now just WWE with a AAA label. i was VERY pessimistic from the start of WWE buying (half buying) AAA but i don't think even i thought it would just be EVERYTHING WWE. It just looks like Starship WWE landed in Mexico City and had a few stickers added. The whole ring including WWE (lucha libre killing) ropes, the stairs, the tables and even WWE's nice little poduim to keep the titles on! the camera work, behind the scenes, looking to the hard cam EVERYTHING Copa Bardahl had it's moments built up to the La Parka win nicely and then Omos won. year long main event story reduced to second on the card, nothing great here except for DR WAGNER JR. ok 6 man with everyone's favourite lizard and Hamburguesa who surely would beat judgement day. why would AAA have two AAA fan favourites lose to a team that means nothing in mexico in a throw away midcard match? congrats to Judgement day. Street fight was fine, would have loved to have seen Pagano's face when they told him they'd be using fake barbwire. women's title match not great, not sure what was happening in the crowd. Main event time and Vikingo might as well go straight to WWE because he's done here. technico loved by all turned into public enemy number one another win for WWE, good luck to them editing out some of the nice chants (Vikingo's poor mother) A rushed WWE style scramble, it was fine nothing i'll remember by tomorrow and all rapped up with a chapter in a WWE mid card fued at AAA's biggest show of the year. what a time to be alive. I've been watching AAA on and off for 18 years and i guess it's time to jump off the train. Mexico now reduced to NXT Mexico and AEW infected CMLL maybe i'll become a fan on Zona 23 Well at least i enjoyed it ? Quote
theringmaster Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 Harsh truth is AAA was dying and if it wasn't for this injection of WWE it probably would have not lasted the year. There is more interest in the product now than there has been for years it seems. There was a time where AAA was my favourite promotion so it does hurt to see it become essentially a wwe show but the flip side is it looks like the talent are having a blast with this new exposure, and likewise, the wwe talent are also enjoying their little cameos. Snitsky's back acne Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 Have to say that a lively crowd turns even a mediocre show into a decent watch. Mexican crowds always seem pretty lively so even though, in isolation, some of the matches may not have been that good the crowd made them into something watchable. If all AAA shows have that crowd energy to them then they should be worth a watch I reckon. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted August 19, 2025 Posted August 19, 2025 I enjoyed it, but I've only rarely dipped into AAA or anything similar in the past, so don't really have any strong opinions on changes etc. It seemed like a fun show and the crowd were up for it. Whether it's all good for business or whatever is a debate far beyond my knowledge but it was nice to watch something a bit different. Quote
