We now need to decide whether to just go to New Orleans on holiday (most likely outcome)

Do it! New Orleans is a fantastic place for a holiday. You'll have more fun bar hopping on Frenchman Street than you will at Wrestlemania.

Also, you're far less likely to hear Fein by Travis Scott, which is surely a big bonus.

I can well see Vegas having made a big money deal for this behind the scenes. Although still a popular destination, Vegas isn't like it was 20+ years ago. I was there 3 years back and it was so different to when I visited late/mid 2000s.

The crowds weren't there like they had been. Prices for everything were extorniate, the good ol' cheap buffets were either gone or vastly over-priced. Drinks were so much more expensive. Parts of the strip were dirtier and lots of shops were boarded up, and quite a few of the casinos and hotels seemed slightly rundown. Those establishments aren't cheap to run, and I imagine WM weekend gave Vegas a massive cash injection that it needed.

I hadn’t even considered the idea that fans may have already booked flights or accommodation.

What a year this company is having at flushing away good will. Fascinating to follow.

It's not just fans who will have already paid for travel and hotels - think how many indie promotions and conventions/fan-fests will have already booked, and likely paid a sizeable deposit, on venues for their Wrestlemania weekend shows. It will be financially ruinous for some of them to have to cancel those, and then pay again for Vegas. I could see a situation where some of the smaller promotions just run an alternative "Wrestlemania weekend" in New Orleans, even without the draw and the captive audience of Wrestlemania, because it would be too costly to cancel and run Vegas instead.

I hadn't even thought of that. I bet screwing over a load of unconnected indy promotions gives them a right tickle too. Would love to see a group of independents go about setting up a collective alternate Mania that weekend as well. Heck, AEW should run a show in New Orleans if WWE are moving Mania to a different weekend. Why not make it free and call it "Not quite as scummy as the other group".
