Merzbow
Quote News broke on Friday morning that “The Taskmaster” Kevin Sullivan had died. He was 74. Long-time Florida wrestling personality Barry Rose confirmed the death of his long-time friend: “With the heaviest of hearts, we are devastated to have to report the passing of the legendary Kevin Sullivan. May he RIP and his family, friends and fans find comfort in how much he was loved.” One of the most interesting characters in wrestling, seemingly been everywhere and ended up being the booker during WCW's biggest drawing years with the NWO. Chili
Someone I grew to appreciate more as a I got older and saw his bigger territory angles because I used to find the idea of him wrestling as completely absurd given the look and size of him. Impossible to dislike the Dungeon of Doom in retrospect though, an absolutely mad hodge podge of comic book baddies headed by a facsimile of the devil with a delightfully thick Boston accent. Hugh Thesz
A tremendous wrestler; involved in many great angles and was always a fascinating shoot interviewee. Plus he must be the only person to have been disqualified in the short history of W*ING. His spike attacks on Brian Lee and Yukihiro (pervert cunt) Kanemura in Smokey Mountain Wrestling remain shocking thirty years on. Rest in peace
Vegeta
What awful news, always loved his work in the ring and out of it and in later years on shoot interviews. He will definitely be missed in the crazy business that is wrestling R.I.P Taskmaster

Paid Members Sergio Mendacious Posted August 9 Paid Members Share Posted August 9 My absolute all-time favorite gimmick in wrestling is Florida "devil" worshipper Dusty Rhodes, corrupting young ladies into his Army of Darkness, and summoning The Purple Haze out of the sea. Just glorious, bizarre stuff that went on too long but threw up so many insane, weird moments. As I mentioned in another thread, The Dungeon of Doom was shit, but I was still fascinated with the weirdness of it all. RIP Kebbin.
SaitoRyo
RIP brother, I will never forget everyone going mental online after the Benoit tragedy and hoping/claiming you had something to do with it.
Paid Members Thunderplex Posted August 9 Paid Members Share Posted August 9 Aww, that’s a shame. Brilliant mind for the business and a great in ring worker. His shoot interviews were excellent. RIP.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted August 9 Paid Members Share Posted August 9 Real shame. Remember first seeing him on WCW Worldwide in 94 and wondering who this little stunted fella who kind of resembled Hulk Hogan was. This likely would’ve been around the time him and Cactus teamed up against the Nasty Boys on a PPV or Clash, whatever it was. Had I seen that match at the time I would’ve seen Sullivan in a different light a bit quicker but I didn’t appreciate him from the stuff I was seeing on ITV on Saturday afternoons. I didn’t think much of the Dungeon Of Doom in real time but I kind of get a kick out of it in hindsight. I didn’t fully enjoy watching him until I saw him and Benoit kicking the shite out of each other in 96-97. Wasn’t fortunate enough to have seen any of his Florida stuff until years later and even now I haven’t seen much of it. His shoot interviews are what really made me like him though. Great wrestling mind, obviously, but I just found him really interesting to listen to and likeable in general. I saw a more recent interview, maybe last year or something, and it was very noticeable that he was dealing with something and wasn’t as sharp or quick as he used to be, which was sad to see. Think I might have to give some of his Florida stuff a look later. I love those sinister heels and I enjoy watching old Gary Hart footage so Sullivan’s evil character will be right up my street. He obviously played the satanic gimmick to an absolute tee if it had morons believing he was somehow the mastermind behind the Benoit murders and waited a whole decade to orchestrate it. RIP Sullivan my son.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted Wednesday at 08:51 AM Paid Members Share Posted Wednesday at 08:51 AM The only thing Cornette is good for these days is this sort of thing. Really liked the in-depth look at the Wing Kanemura angle especially, an incident that's absolutely vile even to this day.
