This features George Hackenshmidt v Phil Rogers from 1908. It first aired in Estonia a few months ago, but is now available online More info about the footage being unearthed is in tthe below link as well. https://violentpeople.co/the-hackenschmidt-holy-grail/ But where's the storytelling????!?!??!!
Paid Members BomberPat Posted November 2, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 2, 2024 (edited) It's not the earliest footage - there's a clip of Eugen Sandow wrestling in 1895, and the clip of old black and white wrestling that used to play at the start of WWE's "Then, Now, Forever" opening video package was from 1901 - but it's certainly the most complete. The footage has been known about for around 15 years, and was finally restored and screened in August after the Estonian Sports Museum got a big influx of funding that has led to the release of a lot of Hackenschmidt material. It's incredible that we can watch this match, though - obviously it being 116 years old is amazing enough, but it's also the first time that anyone will have watched Hack wrestle a match at all in 113 years, and it's from the same year as his first match with Frank Gotch, which helps put into context the kind of wrestler he was going into that match. I spent a lot of time researching Hack, and spending a lot of time with the idea of Hackenschmidt, and to be able to actually see him wrestle is mindblowing. Edited November 4, 2024 by BomberPat

Infinity Land Posted November 4, 2024 Posted November 4, 2024 A parody account (one of those with the slight spelling difference most people won't notice) claimed next year's Backlash would be held at the Tokyo Dome. Got spread around as real or had people asking other sources if it was real and...

Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted November 9, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 9, 2024 Didn’t WWE just do a show in Berlin as well? Would’ve been perfect! Triple H obviously bitter because Alex beat him at Starrcade 94.

Triple H obviously bitter because Alex beat him at Starrcade 94. I did genuinely think he'd get a cameo on that since they found Savio Vega and threw him on that Puerto Rico show. But I guess even being from one of Triple H's favourite countries doesn't get you a payday if you got a pinfall over him back when.
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted November 10, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 10, 2024 (edited) Watched Bret vs Shawn from Survivor Series 97 in full for the first time in donkeys years last night because I saw on Twitter that it was the anniversary of the match. Obviously all that ever gets talked about is the end of the thing, the fallout and the 27 years of incessant waffle about all that. The match itself is ace though. Better than I remembered. Like Bret vs Austin at WrestleMania, it was a fantastic brawl around the arena that became the blueprint for basically every Attitude Era PPV main event over the next couple of years. It got overdone in the end but it was pretty fresh in 97. And when they finally hit the ring, it was really good stuff and shaping up to be probably the best match the two ever had against each other. Amazing when you know how much they legitimately despised each other behind the scenes. Oh and there mightn’t be a wrestler I’ve hated more than Shawn Michaels during his entrance for this match. Just a horrible obnoxious little prick and that’s because he genuinely was a horrible obnoxious little prick. No acting was required. Even the way he chewed gum made me wanna jab him in the face with half a milk bottle. This video package was really fucking good as well… Edited November 10, 2024 by wandshogun09
