Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted June 19 Author Posted June 19 (edited) Sad to say the incident at Johnsons Zoo yesterday happened very close to us. My daughter and her friend didn't see the boy being carried out of the enclosure, but i unfortunately did. Not a pleasant sight at all, but full credit to the staff and emergency services for being so professional and dealing with it with dignity and respect. It was done so discreetly that by the time we'd finished our lunch, which they let us continue with while the situation developed, the park had been closed and almost everyone had left. Thoughts and prayers with the lad and his family, but also as someone who works in care my thoughts are with the carers with the man. Yes they may well have been negligent and took their eye off the ball, but they must be beating themselves up immensely and feeling absolute shit. The zoo is a great place to visit and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone. Edit: before anyone makes a sarky comment along the lines of 'bet you were disappointed'. Having seen that lad covered in blood and only later finding out it was deliberate, it really isn't a nice thing to have witnessed. I think that's the thing though, beyond the obvious, it's because it's so unusual and unexpected that it's newsworthy. It would be far more terrifying if it didn't seem so insane and wasn't treated as such by the media. It put me in mind of the boy who got thrown off the viewing platform at the Tate a few years ago. It's unimaginable, and almost impossible to explain, but also just so incredibly horrific. Quote

I hope you and your family are also doing OK. First and foremost, my thoughts are with the child and his family, but I’m under no illusion that witnessing something like that even in passing is anything other than traumatic. Quote
