Dai Posted January 29 Posted January 29 Two loses, and two shite, unmemorable fights. Probably the worst ever 'name from another company' UFC run in the entire history of the UFC? Even back in the Pride days, Strikeforce days, can't think of anything as bad as this. UFC clearly deciding he's not worth anything above a 20k payday, so probably gave him some cash just to piss off is pretty embarrassing. Quote

In hindsight he was never really that good, but he came in after KO wins over Little Nog and Arona. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 30 Paid Members Posted January 30 Alot of Pride guys failed to live upto the hype when they came into the UFC. Sokoudjou is a good shout but like you mentioned, that was more him coming in off two wins over guys he probably doesn't beat 9 times out of 10. Quote
Dai Posted January 30 Posted January 30 Cro Cop and the Pride bunch at least had some highs to go with the lows, and stayed around for quite a while, so whilst not great runs I'd still say they were better than Mix's. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted January 31 Paid Members Posted January 31 The biggest problem with Mix was that he talked such a big game, he flat out said he was the best 135lb'er in the World coming in. Guy believed his own hype. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted February 6 Author Paid Members Posted February 6 (edited) Yeah no surprise about Mix. Absolutely shat the bed. Wasn’t like I was expecting him to come in and dominate but I didn’t think he’d be a total bust either. Read something earlier that came out in the antitrust lawsuit, apparently the UFC tried to sign Rico Verhoeven and were gonna have him fight at UFC 324 in January but he opted to go the Boxing route. No doubt they lowballed him. Wonder who they were gonna have him fight at 324 if they got the deal done. There were two Heavyweight fights on the card - Waldo Cortes Acosta vs Derrick Lewis and Josh Hokit vs Denzel Freeman. I’m guessing it might’ve been Lewis but I can’t lie I’d have loved to have seen him brutally chin that Hokit twat. Edited February 6 by wandshogun09 Quote
jimufctna24 Posted February 6 Posted February 6 From what I saw at the time and have read about him since, Mix was on a really good run between 2021 and 2023, where he beat and looked very good against some quality fighters (Kyoji, Pettis, Stots). However, he didn't look good in his final Bellator fight in 2024. a rematch with Magomedov which many felt he lost, and then had a 1 year layoff before his UFC debut. It's therefore probable that Mix was shot by the time he fought in the UFC. Quote
Dai Posted February 6 Posted February 6 (edited) I know it's not the be all and end all, but I find it hard to buy into the fact he was shot when you look at the stats only; When he made his UFC debut he was 31 years old, was 20-1, had been 5 rounds three times and had gone the distance just twice (and they were back in 2017). Not exactly a Tony Ferguson style record. Edited February 6 by Dai Quote

Not exactly a Tony Ferguson style record. I know it shows up as a split decision win, but some onlookers struggled to give him a round against Magomedov in their 2024 rematch. He'd previously beaten Magomedov pretty easily only 18 months earlier, submitting him inside 2 rounds. I have no idea why he regressed so quicky, and I don't think he would have ever been Champion in the UFC (Kyoji gave him issues despite being much smaller), but I do think he would have had a better UFC run had he debuted there in 2022. Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 24 Author Paid Members Posted July 24 Hmmmmm what’s going on here then? If the UFC are bringing back Despaigne and possibly signing Parnasse, who else off that Netflix card are they gonna snap up? I’m joking but I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if Mike Perry gets another crack at the UFC. He was talking about a possible return after that win over Nate. It’s obviously too much to ask to get Big Francis back in there 😏 If they have got Parnasse, it’s a great signing. Especially with them making France an annual destination. In the UFC’s eyes it also doesn’t hurt that it takes a legit fighter in his prime out of the mix for future Netflix cards as well. The Despaigne re-signing is another case of that as well. He was a possible opponent for Ngannou on Netflix, that’s out the window now. Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 26 Author Paid Members Posted July 26 It’s confirmed now, the UFC have signed Salahdine Parnasse and he’s headlining the Paris card against Dan Hooker. Love this signing. They tried to get him at least once before, maybe twice, and he declined because he was on more money with KSW. No doubt his last fight being on Netflix made them take notice and they’ve obviously upped the offer. Proof that some kind of competition is always good for MMA and definitely the fighters. Love that they’re throwing him straight into a main event, in front of a home crowd, against a bit of a name and a ranked guy. They also announced yesterday that they’re coming back to Abu Dhabi for UFC 333 in October. Can’t help thinking that’s gonna be where Aspinall vs Gane 2 lands. Same place, almost a year to the day since the eye poke debacle last time. Makes sense time-zone wise and no doubt they’ll chuck it on Box Office for us. Can see Volk vs Evloev being co-main as well. That’s gotta be announced soon surely. Quote
Dai Posted July 26 Posted July 26 (edited) Parnasse and Despaigne were the two standouts of the Netflix show, so its very interesting if they both end up in the UFC. Let's be honest, with the way the UFC is run these days, there is no way they offered Parnasse a mega money deal. The Netflix fight definitely got him more, but it still wouldn't be anything special. Despite all the talk about the Netflix show being a massive success, and that they want to do multiple shows a year, the fact that at the first opportunity one of the prized 'in their prime' assets has pissed off to the UFC shows that they didnt even attempt to tie him down to any sort of decent contract. Shows pretty clearly that the plan must just be to run one or two freak show fights a year, and get whatever free agents they can to fill the undercard. Edited July 26 by Dai Quote
Paid Members wandshogun09 Posted July 26 Author Paid Members Posted July 26 Yeah let’s face it, the Netflix show was because of Ronda Rousey. I think we said at the time that, as nice as the idea of having a few big Netflix cards a year is, there just isn’t a big enough pool of name talent out there to make it a success. It’s only ever gonna be one-off shows here and there. If Ronda was having a few more fights it might be a bit different. Like if they could’ve got Rousey vs Holm 2 and/or Rousey vs Cyborg on. With undercards featuring Ngannou, maybe Carano against someone, possibly even a Cain fight, with guys like Parnasse, Despaigne, Mokaev etc on the undercards. There’s something there. The second Ronda made it clear that the Carano fight was a ‘one and done’ thing, that pretty much went up in smoke. And now the UFC are snapping up the likes of Parnasse and Despaigne just to properly kill off their options. I genuinely can’t think of what Netflix could do for their second MMA card now. It’d have to be Ngannou vs someone but who? And then what, feed Carano to Holm as co-main? It’s slim pickings out there. It’s a shame. I’d love to see Netflix pump out regular shows but it’s not realistic, this is what a monopoly looks like. Quote
Paid Members Egg Shen Posted July 27 Paid Members Posted July 27 Speaking of which, who the hell is Scott Coker gonna sign for his new promotion? That's gonna be run as a full time thing, its gonna be tough trying to fill a decent roster. Quote
