Keith Houchen
Victory for the Union, victory for the workers!! 15% for the lowest pay grades, 10% for the highest.  There’s power in a Union.
David
I imagine there'll be hikes in the cost of rail travel incoming!
Mr_Danger
Rumour was we had an offer incoming with the union and Royal Mail having been in talks for the last few weeks. Then towards the end of last week the union started making noise that would contradict the immediacy of any offer.  Reading between the lines, Simon Thompson the berk who was roasted under questioning twice and has thus had Royal Mail reported to Ofcom for breaching the the USO might be trying to put the kibosh on the deal/ use his refusal to accept the offer of the deal to probably negotiate his own little exit bonus seeing as I imagine we’ve dampened his chances of getting a fat wedge from us being sold off. organizedkaos
In fact they just went up and so won't for a little while because these things are regulated to some extent. Also a percentage of rail ticket prices (certain fares and routes) are raised against metrics of inflation rather than whether or not the workers require a fair wage. SuperBacon
I don't think David was saying fares would go up because the unions have negotiated a pay rise, but rather that fares would go BECAUSE the unions have negotiated a pay rise. If that makes sense? Which it absolutely doesn't. Anyway, join a union.

Yeah, he saying that the money for the pay rise won’t come from skimming it from the dividends for the top brass and existing profits, it’ll come from upping the price so those at the top won’t be affected.

If that isn't the case, then awesome. But we know how the cunts at the top play. They always find a way where they aren't affected at all, and the cost of the workers (deserved) raise in salary comes out the pockets of Johnny worker who needs to ride the rails to his job every day. Mr_Danger
Luckily Johnny Worker is a sensible reasonable chap and he’ll deffo blame any rise in ticket prices on the shareholders and executives and not fellow Johnny Worker.

Regardless of Johnny Worker being reasonable or not, he shouldn't be facing a hike in costs to ensure the bigwigs at the top don't see their large incomes and bonuses affected by the workers getting their wage increase. Sadly, if the rise in wages are compensated for by charging those who rely on the services more, I have no doubt that we'll see some frustration directed at the striking workers. That's always going to happen when the media they consume provides that narrative. Doesn't change the point being made though.
